We don't take out enough for that, it's usually just to widen the river or remove obstructions.

MMM not sure about that AJB but your the expert so I'll not argue but if you look at it logically mobos don't need the River widening provided there is room for 1 boat to pass where as Yachts do.

By all means cut back so that only two boats can pass each other in a straight line.....

Then come back next year and only one can pass alone....

Then the year after that two canoes can pass....

Then only one....

In 10 years two people in wellie boots can squelch their way along.....

10 years after than the RSPB or English Nature lay a trail for ramblers with sone nice seats to look over the marsh, teeming with wildlife and birds....and not a boat to be seen this side of the Great Ouse....

A joke?  Not for some, it's their agenda....

And it all started because you didn't want the rivers maintained.....

No Cori all I'm saying is that certain works benefit Yachts more than they do Mobos, there is no justification for Yacht Tolls to be less than Mobos, IMHO of course.
In the days when engines were dirty smelly things discharging oil and cr*p into the Rivers there may have been a case, now days very little discharge occurs and I wonder if that is as much or harmful as the discharge from Yachts with Sea Toilets?

Actually TT, I don't disagree with your point about toll distinctions, just your justifications....

Perhaps all boats should be charged the same per block area....private, hire, saily or mobo?

Hire craft pay more because (I believe) they use the rivers more, but my car costs the same to tax if I use it as a taxi and there's nothing (except work 40 hrs/week) stopping me using my boat as much as a hire craft.

Suggest all tolls are levelled between hire & private.  Mine and yours might double and Barnes' would drop by 30% or more but there might be more money available for maintenance and moorings and rangers etc.

On sea toilets, provided no chemicals are added (none in any I've seen) I don't see much difference between my discharge and the tons of duck, goose, fish and other stuff anyway...pick the time (prob not best in the marina with no flow) and it's all going downhill anyway.

Maybe we should pay more toll for a sea loo.

But my ob motor doesn't leave an oily slick on the water like some mobos I've seen, nor a blue fog behind like many of the Brundall Navy.

Maybe tolls should be based on the quantity of fuel burnt per year? I used about 5 gallons last year....

Couple of points Cori, Car Parks aren't provided out of the license fee, neither is Policing, 2 of the major coats of running the system, If you had a car and parked it every day for the year you would spend much more than you would if you parked it 2 days a week for 6 months, for this reason alone Hire boats should pay more if you want to use the car analogy.
As for Sea Toilets, if there is no problem from this, why are all vessels not allowed them, if my boat was, I would save more money a year in pump outs than I spend in fuel, if I saved the approx £200 a year I spend on pump outs I would be happy to pay 30% more in Tolls.

Talking toilet issues TT I think that you are peeing into the wind on this one.
Take a look at the wider picture.
Sailing boats cause no pollution, no noise, add to the scenery and are the traditional means of transport of the area.
Look at the way cities and towns are trying to encourage walking/ biking or at least public transport. It would be perverse indeed if an area (with similar status to a NP) were not to encourage the same thing with their particular modes of transport.
One of my small sailing boats, 16 ft ish, attracts a toll of about £60 quid. That is almost doubled as I have a 2hp outboard attached. It is there for emergencies and some years never gets started. But the increased cost seems perfectly reasonable to me as it does have the potential to cause some pollution.

Finally I am sure that you agree with me that the Gods of the waters (sailors with traditional wooden boats exclusively propelled by wind) should pay no toll whatsoever  Smile

Nope Smile  but Vintage Mobos should be exempt of course.
Exi I'm sure that your comments are tongue in cheek because I'm sure that you are just as aware as I am that the majority of "Green" policies are little more than box ticking and window dressing.
Personally I would insist that all Road users pay road tax and that includes push bikes and Vintage cars in just the same way that I believe all vessels should pay the same Toll.
IMHO the reason that Yachts are treated differently from Mobos is less to do with environmental issues and more to do with elitism just look at the make up of the B.A. in general and the Nav Com in particular, I think the truth of that is revealed in the fact that the disparity was around long before the Environment became a "cause"
