I have been in touch with Craig and by courtesy of The Vintage Wooden Boat Association here is the picture of her at the 1959 Boat Show. If you can blow up the area just forward of the Fwd. canopy stanchion you can see the script.

Poor Ole you, to be in hospital over Christmas and the New year must have been the pits. I hope you are fully recovered and not still on antibiotics or anything to prevent you having the odd 'drinkypoo'from now on

Hi Barry, the boat looks even better close up, did not realise she is only about 10 feet away from my boat, even though there is a big shed separating the two!! cheers Mat

Thank you for your kind thoughts yes a complete bummerbeing confined over Christmas and New Year a little amount of vodka was smuggled in on New Years day so not all lost I for obvious reasons was not on board for the journey north so forgive the grammar. We left at around 7am on 11th Dec which should have put us in Grt. Yarmouth at around slack water. The crossing of Breydon in the winter sunshine was like motoring on a mill pond (see photo)so we arrived at Grt.Yarmouth far too early with a rather frightening race around the yellow tripod thingy but the VERY old D4 Ford just chugged along at just over tickover nener issing a beat. Now all you boaters know that this is just too good to be true in an old untried boat, well you are quite wrong, at least untill we got through Vauxhall Bridge that lovely gentle comforting throb next that gut churning dead silence. So here we are just into the Bure and no engine, quite how I don't know but we are alongside one on the fishing boats and safely tide up.The engineers cleaned out the filters and away she went again and off we set to just south of acle where same again. It's getting late so a tow was organised and this is where the story really starts By now it's dark and we are travelling on running lights only, suddenly we just stop with a huge jolt. The driver of the tow boat has mistaken Upton Dyke for the main river and stuffed Star into the quey heading at some thing around 6mph.On inspection the damage appears to be to the stem only no broken ribs or damage to any planking. Someone was watching over this journey without a doubt. Wayford Bridge was not a viable that day so the next day up to Wayford across a flat calm Breydon. She is now out of the water and beginning to dry out nicely

The damage to the stem when one thinks what could have been the end result. She must be built like the proverbial brick out house. Barry

Hi Barry, you do seem to be going through the wars recently! Looks to me as if you’ve got a rotten stem post there so perhaps as well that you have discovered it albeit the hard way. Not unheard of, Powles 1960’s oak does not seem to have stood the test of time. Good news is that the BA team I suspect know all about the delights of fitting new oversized stems without the planks all springing and with Mat in the doorstep I can’t think of anyone better to give you independent advice. Good luck let’s hope for a change of fortune
