Hi we need ideas for couple of itinerary routes please . We have been given a suggested route by the boat yard we are hiring from. Trip starts from Loddon to Reedham Ferry for the 1st day them on to Surlingham , Norwich , Brundall ,Rockland , Reedham , Somerleyton, St Olaves, Beccles , Oulton, Waveney before heading back to Loddon. As we are new to boating holidays we have no idea if this is a decent route plus to throw a spanner in the works it will be my 50th birthday and desperate to find a really nice restaurant I can book in advance but struggling to find something I like.
Our trip starts on the 1st Aug and ends on the 8th can anyone offer any advice please ?

Welcome.

I suspect your lack of response is because the majority of members know more about the northern Broads than the south .

Personally I would go with the boatyards suggestion as it seems reasonable and they have not missed anything obvious .

I would just add that you should take a small detour to stop for a bit at surlingham broad also known as bargate broad. It is a magical spot surrounded by trees.

For your meal the thing to remember is that you are only ever a few miles and a short taxi ride away from many towns, you are not limited to Riverside restaurants .

On of the best eating experiences in Norfolk is to be had at Brasteds near framlingham pigot.

The big proviso is i am not sure how many restaurants will actually be open in the first week of August.

Have fun

Graham

Thanks Graham much appreciated.

It is perfectly possible to get to the Northern rivers and back but in my opinion you will not do either side justice in one week. Dare I say it there is sometimes an air of a macho element that creeps in and  it becomes a challenge to be overcome.

Depending on tides you will need to allow two days out of your holiday just to cross breydon get through Yarmouth and get to acle and back again. The bit between Yarmouth and acle is particularly unappealing and is a waste of a precious day ( only in my opinion of course ).

The other advantage in staying south in August is you will avoid the mayhem of northern moorings where you often have to moor by lunchtime to be sure of a spot.

First trip stay south, love it , come back and go north. You will love that too.

Enjoy yourselves

Graham

Thanks again Graham..
Am happy to stick with the South and I said the same to the hubby if we enjoy south then all the more to book again for next year and try north.
I was looking at Benedicts in Norwich for my birthday which looks like it does similar menu to Brasted but as my Birthday will be on day 6 I think we will struggle to get back to Loddon as boat needs to be returned by 9am on day 8.
I don’t want a rushed week, I want to take our time but the same time want to try and find a decent restaurant.

Benedicts is  a great restaurant but I have only eaten there once. The prices are not what you would call user friendly as a regular haunt but brilliant choice for a special occasion . Have a great holiday.

You can also book moorings at Beccles and Oulton yacht stations as well as the Waveney River Centre these can be booked in advance not sure if the Waters Edge takes bookings.
