I'd like to replace the two hinges on my engine hatch, which have seen better days.

They're chromed brass (not so much chrome these days!) and I'd prefer to replace like for like. I've tried numerous places eg Jewsons, Norfolk Marine, Brian Ward, Trimage (how's that for some free advertising) and have searched on-line - all without success.

I may have to bite the bullet and have them fabricated from stainless steel, but, before I approach my bank manager, I was wondering if anyone had a pair languishing in their 'bits box', which need a loving, caring home, or knew of a source of new ones?

Could they not be re-chromed?

Yes, they are off a bathtub  Tinhat

They could be rechromed, but one of them is beginning to crack, so it would be a case of brazing then rechroming, which might be just as costly as getting new ones made.

Since you asked.......... Playful Wink

That aside back in days of old Coopers used to supply many of the yards.

JM, you never disappoint me... tounge-in-cheek

I've just rung Cooper's, no joy.

I've also had a quote for repair and re-chrome...around £100 for the pair. Doesn't sound alot, if you say it quickly.

Paledine,

I can get them re-chromed for you in Sheffield much cheaper than that, if you can get them braised up I would be happy to get them done.

Dave

if it is to be it is up to me!

Sorry about Coopers. Another source of that era was a company called Carrs. Can't remember the boss's first name but I do remember his wife, hers is Jean. If you happen to be going past Coldham Hall just pop in and ask if the Carrs are about. He used to be Commodore of the Brundall Motor Boat Club, might be able to track him down via that route. There is a retail/trade hinge/shop in Norwich, can't think of its name at the moment.

TerryTibbs, thanks for that offer.

JM, you might be thinking of A C Leigh in St Benedicts - another negative.

How about having a chat with the guys at Richardsons? They would no doubt have used a few over the years and might be able to point you in the right direction.
