Hampton Safari with 1500 BMC No Ignition light and Alternator not charging so we replaced the ignition lamp and all was well. Next day…..No Light … Alternator not charging again … Replaced bulb once more and all OK Is there an alternative to reliance on a mini 12v 2w bulb to get your batteries charged Thanks
On Alternators of that period the ignition warning lamp circuit had the much more crucial task of "exciting" the alternator coils, as well as showing that all was well.
It can be replaced by a wire wound resistor or even a diode, but if it keeps blowing the correct voltage and wattage bulbs, then there's something else amiss.
Thanks for replies Have now fitted a re-con alternator and also fitted a new 12v 2w bulb and holder Have checked earthing leads and all connections Have now run for 5 hours with no problems Will post again if fault returns B n J
