In the light of Last weekend (see Seen this)

With a new season starting and given the safety of younger crew members in mind just thought it might be worth repeating what has been said before.

If you have members of your crew who are knee high to a grasshopper and who on rare occasions are likely to drift off into a world of their own, it is not difficult to lose them. (Now don’t start saying ‘Oh bliss’!!)  A bit of tape sewn into the cuff of their anorak on which you can write your hire boat name and your not their mobile number makes a world of difference.  At a yacht station from that height a lot of boats look all the same, the same with Richardson’s or Wood’s.  Show them where reception is or on other moorings tell them to go to the nearest Pub and ask for the manager.  In this day and age I know that best advice is not to talk to strangers and not give your name or address but if they stick to that too rigidly it is very difficult to help.  Make sure that they understand that if someone wants to ring the police that’s not because they are in trouble or going to be arrested but just to call any search parties off (in practice these days, sad though it is, you need to do that straight away least anyone says that something odd is going on).  If you have lost someone NCC non urgent number is 0845 456 4567 ask for Broads beat and let river control know at Carrow bridge 01 603 625091.

'As you are all moored side on may I lay alongside you? Certainly my dear which side of the bed do you prefer?' Bill...
