Hi all We had such a great time on the Broads in September that we are planning to come back again in September 2009. This time we thought we would have a nostalgia trip so are looking at something we have hired before. Well Bosun is on the Thames and Queen of Hearts was scrapped, and we were very pleased with the Ferry Privateer series, which were virtually brand new when we hired them. Most have been sold off in the intervening time, lucky guys like Jimbo have one of the Ferry Privateers which only leaves the now San Remo 2 of those we've had before. Has anyone hired it recently and can advise on the condition of this particular boat? We saw one of the Melody class in SEptember and it was certainly looking good and the hirers were happy with it.
Regards Geoff

Hello Geof Good to hear you are already planning a return visit! The Melody's have been stripped back to the bare plastic and refitted, so these are really like a new (well it was approx 5 years ago now) boat inside, but with the layout kept the same, and the forward cabin has two singles. The San Remo's have been updated in places but are original in others. I had a look inside one about two years ago and it was quite tidy, the galley units were fairly recent, as was upholstery etc. The forward cabin was changed to a double instead of the original two singles some time ago. All other major stuff was original but quite tidy - bulkheads etc etc. I guess depending on your point of view if its a nostalgic trip maybe this would be more special?! Also, on the one I looked in there was a picture of her as Ferry Privateer stuck under St. Olaves bridge to warn hirers! Apolagies if you knew all the above, and hope someone else can help further. There are some internal pictures in the forums 'hireboat info' section (button towards the bottom of the page) of both Melody's & a San Remo which might be of use/interest. All the best Dan

Ah yes...The 'Melody' design... Still affectionately known as a 'cake boat' after a birthday celebration for a certain person back in March 2006 at the Ferry Inn, Horning!

Ah yes John... A superb weekends boating (one of the best ever) that was, made extra special by that cracking night at the Ferry with lots of forumites! Christina (Tuppence) really did excel herself with the cake. I wonder if Roya has forgiven me yet for not having the heart to cut up such a masterpiece! http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=21&Topic=3876&keywords=dans%20birthday All the best Dan P.S Just re-reading the linked thread I see the picture of me with the cake has transformed itself into a picture of a sunken old tub! This forum's percularities continue to be a unique charm & appeal! http://www.fbwilds.horning.org.uk (My website on the Caribbean bathtub!) http://www.dhorner.horning.org.uk (My General Boating Website)

Hi Dan and all I remember the bridge picture, I think it was taken during the first year of hiring the sedan class. As a family we liked them because whoever was manning the galley was part of the trip and could also see out the windows - don't like those that put the 'galley slave' away from the rest of the crew, often with minimal view of the outside world. Love the cake by the way! Here's hoping we can get our act together and get San Remo 2 on hire in September.
Regards Geoff
