Hey Y'all!

It looked like a hoot, so I thought I would drop in and play... any idea where this is?

Is it beyond Wayford bridge, up by Dilham?

'fraid not! Frown  However, if you do happen to own a canoe, and you are up by wayford bridge, heading away from Stalham, take the right fork and it's a nice little jaunt up there to the lock gates! Did it a couple of years ago and it was really nice! Smile

The only other place I can think of that's so narrow would be Waxham new cut?

Good going Keith! Was hoping it wouldn't go that quickly as it's rather out of the way and all the books 'n stuff say *don't venture, hard to turn round*, but we had no prob in (NB: approx) 28" length and 8" breadth... even sailing back down from the bridge back to horsey mere! Smile

I tried going up there last May in Quiet Light I, 31 x 12ft. Got about 100 yards in and started to touch the bottom, at that point swiftly reversed out. Smile  That and the other place you described earlier are probably the only places I haven't managed to get. Managed to take Brint of Time I 35 x 12ft upto Dilham and that gets narrow in places.

I *think* and please don't take this as gospel, but I think the boat that I was on, only drew 3"! But I'm sure I will be corrected at some point by coriolis who will no doubt repromand me for not cracking on with work! Rest assured, I have been! Smile

Regarding the Dilham thing, you can go on for ages after where your boat won't have been able to go! OR at least it felt like ages at the time, maybe it's because I was doing all the paddling with my *crew* doing very little! Wink

Keith,

I've never hired 'Quiet Light' but I had a look on it once. The thought of trying to drive it from the front cabin steering position scared me to death! Did you try using it?

Funny you should mention that. Quiet Light had a new canopy over the outside steering position and so we always steered from outside, apart from the one time we wanted to get under the bridge at Thorpe.
We tested changing the steering over prior to the bridge, only to find that it didn't work properly. You could steer from inside but had no throttle control.
We ended up with my mate steering, whilst I lay on the floor outside and controlled the throttle at my mates direction. We managed it through the bridge without any mishap. Smile
The lession here is to always check the dual steering changeover on hire craft before you leave the yard.
