I did 20 years, 1987 to 2007 and then some consultancy type work until 2012 on the Doncaster works site.  So iwas up to neck in traction and rolling stock spares, repairs and overhauls for all that time.  Almost all BR stock from 1950s/60s onwards plus Siemens of the modern stuff.

I used to visit Howells in Manchester on AWS matters.  The signalling side of their business had rooms full of the old signal box/relay room kit including relays and relay bases for various signalling schemes.

I keep an interest as a regular traveller by rail.

Three that I can recall
Peglar went under for £213000

Macalpine bought it from the US finance company

Tony Marchington bought it then spent a million on it after Macalpine and Waterman ran out of money

God only knows how much NRM has spent on it

Stuey,
I work on the railway in London, we have progressed on a bit from 47's to Class 67's.

Sorry to bring bad news, but since my post on the 28th,I have found out that Greater Anglia have ceased loco hauled trains (DRS class47) from Norwich to Gt.Yarmouth /Lowestoft, as they have sufficient DMU's now to make up the service. Pity, as I recall that  the diesel locos really used to make the swing bridges rumble and shake when crossing.
All we can hope for is the occasional infrastructure train which are quite rare in this neck of the woods!
Yes, and I am also a Rail enthusiast, but not to be seen on the end of platforms, snapping away or recording numbers, just preferring a general interest in historic and modern railways, and other forms of transport (air, road and sea).
Suppose I'm lucky in living next to a line that sees plenty of freight and passenger services, including the odd Deltic!
