How Hill will be opening the water gardens to the public on ten afternoons and are looking for volunteers to help with car parking, collecting money and manning gates etc.  The first date will be May 8th.  If you would be prepared to help please contact Sue Holmes on 01 692 678555.

I meant to add that Sue has another problem in that one of their cooks has got to have an hip operation during the summer so they are also looking for a suitably qualified cook for a few weeks if anyone can help again please ring her (can involve cooking fish fingers and chips for 47 youngsters or catering for 60+ at lunch times and laying on buffets for business executives.)

Blimey Bill the new gardeners are going to have to get a move on then!! As far as I am aware the gardens have not had a gardener for sometime until recently but they are unique and something most people do not know even exist. I suppose the rhodedendrums will be out then and at the same time perhaps some others will take the opportunity to go round the Nature Trail there - again something often overlooked. As is the cottage by the staithe. I frequently spend many an hour down there working with the BA's conservation volunteers!!

? The water garden’s are meticulously maintained.  As a friend of How Hill I have had the chance to go each year and they are always beautiful.  In case anyone is wondering there will still be a Private viewing day for friends with Lunch on May 19th. The public days in May are 8,16, 22,29 &30th. There will also be 4 days when the formal gardens are also open but these have not been announced and have to be when there are no children in residence.  Eric Edwards is likely to be giving a talk on these latter occasions.

Having recently received the latest How Hill Newsletter I note that there are still a number of places available on their Spring Weekend Course.  The dates are Friday 9th May (7pm) to Sunday 11th May (4,30) and cost £159 per person.  The price includes accommodation, all meals, a free boat trip, illustrated lectures and educational excursions with a guide plus plenty of time to relax.  There are a number of other weekends and longer courses/breaks full details from the How Hill Trust  www.how-hill.org.uk

Notable is the Wherry Hathor Course between Monday 28th July and Friday 1st August at a cost of £285 per person.  The cost includes accommodation ‘ashore’ and meals etc as well as the trips on Hathor.

The water gardens are open to the public on Tuesday 20th May, Friday 23th May, Tuesday 27th May & Friday 30th May in the afternoons.  In June & July on 4 Thursdays there are 4 occasions when you can spend an afternoon with Eric the marshman.

Bill

Could you check the dates in your last two posts? They don't seem to stack up.
Thanks

Nigel

Bill

That helps a bit, but I am still confused. Do you mean:
Tuesday 20th, Friday 23rd
Tuesday 27th, Friday 30th

Bill - was chatting to the gardener Tuesday and I have to say the water gardens look great! He and Eric have done a fantastic job and the Trust must be delighted. They always were pretty unique but this year will look even better methinks! Smile
