"A Seamans pocket book" First issued June 1943, now in reprint as a bit of nostalgia but it contains a great deal of still pertenant information and instruction and what isn't relevant today is an amusing and informative insight ito the life of a rating in wartime and it's only bus fares and fits in your pocket. Hey, I think this could be a really good thread - I have not yet embraced the christmas thing so any tips for pressies are very useful! (but the tree was going up in the village today so I can't ignore it for much longer!) Wonder if I can do ALL of our christmas shopping on line... Karen

Karen, The best Xmas Pressie INMHOP is to get out on your boat,if you can on Boxing day Have a kiss and a cuddle and enjoy the Broads. Better than all spending on stuff we dont need. Just my thoughts, cos I intend to do the same with my Gill, the best present any man can have.

Saw a very nice Swiss Army brand 'Skipper's Knife' in a shop window in Lewes today. Hovered long enough for SWMBO to get the idea, I think... A bit pricey at £30.00 but looks very good!

Hi Roy, Agreed! After all the deliberating at our house on winterising or not, we have fitted a thermostatically controlled low amp bilge heater thing, dotted a few moisture traps about and will be chucking a cover over her, but with a view to visiting once a month, including a New Year trip. Will prob stay at a B & B but take her out on the river in the day time. We really did dither, but someone said a boat never suffered from winter use, rather, lack of it! I will still be fretting though, especially if that dreadful long range forecast that was posted up recently is anywhere near correct! We have never "winter" cruised at all before...but I'm sure looking forward to it! Karen
