Hi all.
What's the dinghy sailing scene like on the broads? I've been many times but never brought my boat, just hired yachts. Where's the main dinghy sailing hub, where to look for open meetings etc? I sail a Europe -any europes on the broads?

Happy sailing! Rob

There have been 'Europes' on the Broads, but only as all-comers, not as a class. Problem with a Europe is the lack of 'courting' room.

www.saileast.co.uk might help. Nip into 'links' and have a search.

Its not the low boom, Rob, what ever were you thinking of? There is nowhere to stand a candelabra when having a candlelit dinner for two!

Lot to be said of a keel boat, no blessed c/b box!

Ah JM, you`re right, keelboat far better for courting, plenty of room in my Int`Tempest even a place for the candelabra. Smile

Rob, welcome m8, those darn Radials hey. Did the Europes manage more than two olympics before they lost the spot? Int`Tempest only two untill some fool let the Star back in!

Nige.  Cheers

Anyway, the good thing is that there's an influx of good-quality secondhand kit about since we lost the olympics. (Trying to look on the bright side here...)

Yep, can't say I'd try and have a candlelit dinner on a Europe - could be a challenge. And as for dessert...

Back on the dinghy sailing front (off at a tangent there methinks)...
Thanks for the advice and sites about open meets etc. As I say we have sailed yachts on the broads before, but I've been just dying to give my europe a thrashing on the likes of barton or hickling etc. We have looked at hiring a cottage and sailing our dinghies for a week before, but can't find anywhere that offers launching for less than £20 a day (obviously they can't be left on the water). Does anyone know anywhere we could launch / store our dinghies on the cheap??

Happy sailing! Rob

Hi Rob,

With a small dinghy like a Europe, you should be fine on most of the public or parish staithes that have slipways. Some are free, whilst some have a small charge for non parishioners (usually £2-£3). Te only problem you might have with some of them is parking your trailer.

Most of them are listed on the NSBA Website

Hope that helps.
