What a dreadful incident. So sorry to hear that a boater has lost their life. Cannot imagine how her family / the others on the boat are feeling. Thoughts are with them all tonight.

Oscar Romeo, Well done! You managed to make a disparaging comment about hire boats whilst commenting on what anyone with an ounce of empathy would regard as an unmitigated tragedy.

Only surmising here but if what happened is the lady was at the bow ready with the rope to moor and the boat accidentally hit the quay and she went over, it brings home to the rest of us to always have one hand on the rail on the boat and one hand for the rope.

God only knows what the family are going through she was only a young woman , tragic.   So sad.

Our condolences and prayers.

Sorry, I didn't see anything amiss with OscarRomeo's post. He was stating that there was a hire boat at right angles to the bank, probably in the wake of the incident. What has upset you all about that? Because he used the word "hirey" instead of "hire boat"? Or mentioned the fact it was a hire boat at all? I didn't think he was alluding to the boatmanship of the vessel in any way. I'm running out of patience with the way offence is taken where none intended. Way of the online world, I suppose. I'll be off now, goodbye.

Regards, Ray.

Whatever happens now, I'm blaming it on Brexit. Everyone else is!

I agree with you there Ray. I posted myself after Oscar Romeo and I didn't see it as offensive , simply, just as you have pointed out, an observation made when passing the scene.

This is a dreadful incident which will send a shudder through all our hearts, and I would ask members not to see the thread  as an opportunity for divisive attacks or comments. A young woman has lost her life. Her fellow crew, family, friends are in the most awful place right now, trying to deal with this. May we all put our own boating agendas to one side and feel for them at this terrible time.

I agree with you whole heartedly Karen, nothing wrong wrong with the post.  What we all have  to do is keep in mind the family of this poor lady.  Words don't do it justification.
