Whilst visiting the Wherry Albion on the day of the
Cruise in Company, I noticed a range of lovely wooden
items made from Albion Oak when being repaired.

After emailing with the man who makes these lovely
items, I chose to have five pendants made as gifts for
my son's Australian fiancee, her mother and her two
sisters - and one for me!

They have just arrived this morning and are lovely.
They are circular with a slightly offset hole through
them on a piece of fine oiled string.  In addition to
being very pretty, mine is going to be a very useful
place to hold my reading glasses when not in use!

The website of the Norfolk Wherry Trust is here:

The website of the Woodturner, Jon, is here:

Enjoy!

Cor Lisa - would you like to be our promo mascot with
strategically draped pendants?
No thats not on is it but thank you for the comment - it
will be passed on to the appropriate person.
P.S. Hope this does not take off or we shall find new
bits of wherry missing rather than using the old bits
removed!!

I love the clocks, thermometers etc.  and with dad's birthday coming up I'm thinking that these could solve a problem.

Is it necessary to visit Albion or her base to buy bits or is there a interweb order thingy?   Smile

Lol Marshman, I will happily be your mascot, but Miss
Leigh tells me she would rather have that honour
(wearing a life jacket of course!) LOL .  The
pendants really are nice, beautifully finished, and I'm
proud to offer them to my soon-to-be-inlaws in
Australia!

Charlie, I have Jon's email address if you would like
to approach him to make something special for your Dad,
he is willing to discuss "one offs" or new items for
the range.

I am wearing my pendant now and it seems it's going to
be one of those things one "plays with" while thinking,
got to be better than my other habit of straightening
paper clips.

Liz, that sounds lovely!  Three centuries' span of
technology?  Or is it almost?

So, it looks like the news is spreading. Yes, I am the bloke in Ludham who makes the Wherry Albion souvenirs from timber reclaimed from the boat. As said above, lots of things are available, and all can be found on the NWT page at www.wood-be-nice.co.uk

I wondered about trying to make some money out of Water Rail's rotten wood (well the not so rotten bits) in the spring. Only 78 years old but still a bit of Broads history!!!!!!!

Another chine plank due to be replaced in 2 years, maybe a few key rings or .............

As members of The Wherry Trust we visited The Albion at Ludham on their open gardens day recently. We saw these items made from the old timber for the first time. We were so impressed that we purchased a clock and a thermometer. Now fitted in the cabin of "Falcon"(our cruiser not the steam launch,)they look great and are fantastic value!

Hi Liz, I am quite busy with my Albion work, but also, I am more than happy to look at any timber you extract and pass an opinion. After all, if I can make souvenirs for you without it costing me money, thats fine. Get in touch via my web site.

Jon.
