An application to reinstate mooring facilities for private boats at Cayenne Marina in Thorpe Island, Thorpe St Andrew, has received more than 40 letters of objection.

At one time the island used to be a hive of activity with such as Jenners. Indeed a large marina was dug out with great plans for the future. I would have thought that there is a very obvious need for moorings. A few might have their noses put out of joint but far more people would gain in what I suspect would be a very popular facility.

Jenny Morgan,
A vane, a boat, but not a bird.

The Broads, much more than just another National Park.

I've never seen such a load of rubbish as the objections to this...

If it doesn't get approval it is a joke!

If this is the old basin to the Norwich end of Thorpe Island, then its highly unlikely to be granted and probably shouldn't be. This spot is a mosquito hell for most of the year, and couldn't be made habitable without a complete defoliage of most of that end of the island.

The only ones willing to moor leisure craft there would be desparation acts, and its arguable that Thorpe Island boasts a few too many of those anyway.

The application is also unfortunate as its more than likely to further prejudice Thorpe council against the handful of responsible Liveaboards/Residential Boatowners, whose current tenure of Thorpe Iland moorings is uncertain.

This fresh application is not a good cause, and is largely underserving of the support shown here. As I've said - its likely to undermine the case for Residential boaters rather than reinforce it. Bad idea. Bad timing.

...and here is one of the residents of Thorpe Hall Close that opposes the marina:

He lives in Thorpe Hall, although that is not made clear in the article.

Did this obtain permission to go ahead, if so what are the effects you noticed?

The plans were never refused as they were actually withdrawn, but there are now a couple of boats moored there.  Not sure what the owners next move is, but I'm sure something is in the pipeline.

It could be a very nice spot to moor.
