Plans for a new marina in Lowestoft have been submitted to Waveney District Council. The 130-berth marina would form one part of the redevelopment of the former Brooke Marine shipyard on the banks of Lake Lothing.

Development of the 12.5 hectare site would include offices and retail premises as well as 550 flats, 100 houses, and a 200-bedroom care retirement home

All of which will be far out of reach of the average man in the street!

Lake Lothing will soon be just one big marina at this rate. ABP are also creating new pontoon berths on the seaward side of the bridge.

A new Brooks marina should ensure that our bridge keepers are never out of work, and that the local motorists' miseries are compounded!

So long as they don't deposit all the subsequent ashes on the Broad, or it will really need dredging!

Mowjo, nothing in the redevelopment scheme is about providing jobs, just gross profits for city institutions.

It cant all be bad im sure the boat owners dont do their own maintenance and care of old people takes a lot of staff just need to be sure the jobs go to local people rather than new immagrants

Smile Jenny! it's all clear now! the care home is for all those trapped between the bridge and Oulton, if trying to get out dosn't drive them mental, they'll be too old to care anyway by the time they do escape, still at least I'll be able to look out of my window and see a nice twenty story tower block if it gets to go ahead, and knowing WDC it will, I see CKS Developments are also proposing 1500 new home on brownfield site around Lowestoft as well as Brooke Marine, Great I'm all for bringing Lowestoft into the 21 century, but where are all these new people going to work, unless they are all retired most of them will end up on benifits, even during the building of all this it will probably be done by outside Building Contractors, there may be a few labouring jobs for the lucky few, and once completed maybe a few jobs in the marina, and a few hundred at most in the new offices, but wqith over 2000 proposed property's that going to be a big shortfall in jobs, jobs are going at a faster rate than they are being created here at the moment, I hear Bernard Mathews are looking at making 150 people redundant, so in theory yes it's a great Idea, but personaly I think they should concentrate on getting more large businesses into the area, and that will never happen until we get that third crossing, with all the improvements they have made here it seems even worse than it was before, seems like it's just one big bottleneck now, all roads leading to Nottleys and going no-where fast, the lack of planning here beats even London,,

I think, Moyjo, I'd open a restaurant offering pensioners  dinners, be plenty of them. You could offer discount for the workers, only there won't be many!

8,000 homes are destined for Lowestoft and surrounding areas, and no real plans for a third crossing.
