Knock on door last night, open door, 5 kids all shout "Trick or Treat". When I explain they are 24 hours early what looked like the eldest says...we are all at a party tomorrow night mate?

They scarpered pretty quick but, I had to laugh and admire their cheek when I closed the door.  Grrrrr!!

You'll have to do what an elderly aunt of mine used to do.  The door would swing open to reveal her nursing a water cannon.  In a sharp voice she would then ask "WELL where's my treat?"   Scared

Well,

Hopefully someone else on this forum will back this up.

I lived in the states for 2 and a half years (SACLANT for you Navy types!!!).

Halloween was a one night a year job, everyone came out to play. I used to sit up a tree and scare the living daylights out of the adults.

The kids were always supervised, when I say kids I mean from 15 downwards and the evening was enjoyed by all (even got off work early to get things ready).

I know that I didnt live in a bad bit but cant remember anything like the reports on the radio over here of thugs doing this and that.

So yes, I blame the Yanks for alot, but sorry, this aint one of them

Gary.

At the going down of the Sun, and in the morning, we shall remember them.

I have spent 3 of my last 5 Halloweens in the USA. Keene NH and St Paul MN(both very nice)and Gary IN (former murder capital of USA). In none of these places did I see young thugs terrorizing neighborhoods in the name of trick or treat. We only ever saw well-supervised groups of polite children doing the rounds, sometimes of private homes and other times going from store to store in the shopping malls.

The Yanks might have had the basic idea, but it took the Brits to spoil it.
