No not reopening as a café / shop. The café / shop next door to The Berney Arms is being re-opened. I'm fairly sure it doesn't include the pub. A separate group are still looking at raising funds to purchase the pub and run it as a community asset. More details on Facebook.
Happy to support the honest and reliable pubs and businesses of The Norfolk Broads.
How very sad. Only just found this bit of news. When I was holidaying in Norfolk about 6 years ago I made a special trip by train to the Berney Arms just to visit this beautiful isolated pub. My goodness we really are losing our heritage, there will be nowhere left for communities to meet and socialize in years to come if this trend continues. My heart has sunk.
"there will be nowhere left for communities to meet and socialize in years to come if this trend continues"
Therein lies the problem for the Berney. There is no accessible community to meet there. Other than a few boats and the odd train passenger. Like most I hope that a solution can be found but I am not hopeful.
Hold you hard an fret you not ....berney arms cafe and shop all safe and sound ...we will still be opening late March ready with the coffee and the butties the cakes and the cookies the shepherds pie and apple blackberry crumble ...the cafe will be licensed so we can run your alcohol and chocolate orders to your craft or you can sit under geodomes in our picnic area.. the Berney arms is in safe hands what dya reckon ?
I must apoligise for not spotting your post earlier to welcome you aboard and wish you every success. Just one tiny plea so that passing boaters know you are open, maybe green flag/light for open yellow for opening later today and red for closed We all realist it is unrealistic to always be open but if mooring is tricky it is just good to know its going to be worth it. Hope to sample the offering soon Peter
Yes i endorse what Peter says it is frustrating to go to the trouble to moor up(it can be challenging at times) only to find you are not open.Difficult to see your sign on the front door from the river. Thamks. John
