Hope it's the Broadshaven, it needs it, what a terrible place that is and has been for some time.

When we were their last month we had a fantastic meal in the Falgate, and the landlady said it may be changing hands, if so I do hope the new ones can keep up the fantastic reputation and superb food.

The Broadshaven could have been something, could have been a contender...but...What do you do with somewhere which has all the warmth and welcome of a conference venue.  I am really not sure what whoever it was who fitted out the building was going for.   It is so soulless, the suspended ‘office type’ ceiling and over bright florescent lights just make it feel somewhere you don’t want to spend a great deal of time.

But, it has a lot of space and potential – but I don’t think just a new team will do much for the place, it needs (in my opinion) gutting and then starting over – the space it has could be used to have a descent restaurant with a good few tables.  The bar area could be brought up to being more ‘comforting’ and somewhere you want to stay – for it is not just the quality of drink and food and people running somewhere it is also much about the atmosphere and ambiance.

Problem is there is not a great deal of money going to be made at the best of times with pubs, and to refit somewhere like that will cost a great deal – but at least it is going on and not closing, because it is better to have a place to go for a drink and good time with your friends than to have somewhere boarded up.

I would love to see the broadshaven all spruced up, the gardens overlooking the water etc could be really something, but it's like everywhere else just no custom, surely someone will take it over that can afford to do something to attract customers back again.
It's such a shame, I remember when it was my favourite pub many years ago when singers etc were the entertainment, brilliant it was too.
Dig deep someone and sort it out please.

quote:"......The Broadshaven could have been something, could have been a contender...but.........."

....but if no one can make money out of a pub located next to one of the most famous bridges on the Broads - and possibly, in the whole country - then its not looking very good for local business initiative.  Frown
