Topic: Holiday cottage recommendations

Hurstwood    -- Jan-9-2014 @ 1:01 PM
  Hi Guys
Not sure if I have posted this question in the correct section? Admin. please move if required.
We like to stay in a river front cottage for a couple of weeks each September, for years we have stayed in the HW cottages at PH both on the river and in the boat yard. I do lots of fishing and my wife likes a total chill out so the cottages have to be nice.We tried the Whispering Reeds houseboats on Hickling a few years ago but my wife would never stay in one again, not very comfortable, fishing was good though Smile  Last year we stayed in a lovely cottage on the river at Wroxham, just below Barnes Boat yard, superb location and cottage but the river was choked with weed and unfishable Frown
So I'm thinking Horning maybe? - fishing from front door, very comfortable,WiFi,etc, etc.
Anybody any suggestions/recommendations please.
Cheers
Alan

We have never stayed in one but there are some nice
cottages at Brundall , Horning and we have stayed at
Moon River which is North of the bridge at Potter which
wasnt too bad at all.

I like main drainage in a cottage and North of Potter
Heigham bridge they are mainly on cesspit which has to
be emptied by the craft 'Louise'.   Ok if you dont mind
that kind of thing.

Last November we stayed at Watersedge which is one of
HW's cottages and it was so wet on the path to and fro
that I had to go and buy Wellington boots to wear.
All my decent shoes were a no no.    Not my idea of
fun, wading through deep puddles every time you went
out of the door.   You would be ok in the Marina and
also Broadlands.

Women dont nag they just point
things out...

  Thanks 'Hylander'
We stayed in Wateredge last September, it's nice but becomes a bit
of a trek if the weather is poor. We have a week booked in
Broadlands this year and a week in Kingfisher in the marina, stayed in
both of them before and like both.
We have looked at Moonriver before but it's a 'bit far out'  Frown   I believe
the fishing is very good up there though.
Hoping someone will recommend something up near Horning (good
fishing is important) and it has to be a Saturday to Saturday period.
Thanks again
Alan
Edited to say- I got Moon River confused with the cottage further up
the Thurne near to Martham, that's called Moon ?? I think, near to
the turn up to Hickling, it's quite isolated, looks very nice and as I
said fishing is supposed to be brill.

We stayed in Willow Cabin in Wroxham December. This is a lovely cottage all on one level and notes left in the book by others during the year say fishing is very good. Water was clear in December with lovely garden to site in. It is not far from summer Craft good parking on site in own driveway.

We stayed in Midway one of 3 Bungalows Martham Boat Developments have at Martham, very nice it was too, it is sited near Candle Dyke and the fishing was excellent and not too many boats so fishing in the day time is possible.
There is also a nice up market cottage owned by one of the members here, it is called Hide Cottage and it is at Martham Ferry.

Dave

if it is to be it is up to me!

Alan, if you want to try Horning, there is a nice cottage run by JB Boats called "Langton's View" Smile

The website is here

John

fourjays    -- Jan-9-2014 @ 6:21 PM
We've stayed at Langton's View on a couple of occasions and found it very comfortable.  John and Amanda are very accommodating and the cottage is immaculate.  It's set back off the main river and about a 5-10 minute walk into the village.  I would say though that the cottage is ideal for 2 people but the second bedroom would be ok for children but is a bit small for 2 adults.

£2,200 for a week at The Mill.    Did you say you did
not want shares in the place.

That is down right rediculous - who on earth can afford
that.   If I had that money to blow on a week  I
certainly would not pick that place.   Jeepers. !!!!!

Looking at the link to the properties.    There is a
holiday place called Grebe.   Is that the Grebe Island
property please?

I've stayed several times at The Granaries at Wayford Br.
5 properties, all by the river. Well furnished, dishwashers, wi-fi. All sleep 4 people, 2 are "upside down" with balconies overlooking the river, the other 3 the normal way up. All come with a rowing boat, and day boats can be hired on site. There is also a swimming pool there.

Steve51    -- Jan-10-2014 @ 12:36 PM
Hylander, there is a property on Grebe Island called Grebe. It was built about 3 years ago and fitted out to a very high standard. The island also has free WiFi and you can hire a day boat to go with it too.

You've already had a suggestion for Royall's Riverside Retreat in Hoveton on Daisy Broad.  There is also Fineways rental property (Kingfisher Cottage?) next door, a bigger offering.  Both are off Riverside Road which can sometimes flood behind the Hotel Wroxham.

Is the fishing good in your boat yard?
Is it nice in the boat shed?
Do I get a discount on the quid because I'm a forum member?

I have to suggest our own Fishers Haven if you do decide to go back to PH, last bungalow before Highs Mill (above the bridge) therefore open views to the side as well as across the river, new to the rental market this year.
