At one time, I was a football fanatic, season ticket holder at BDTBL, had an executive box there for a few seasons, sponsored games, the whole works. Then several years ago I "fell out of love" with the game which was no longer Football but just a means of giving vast amounts of money to a bunch of over rated prima donnas.
I took a look at the link provided by JM showing the Championship table,(the 1st time in years) and was amazed to see Doncaster Rovers the highest placed team form Yorkshire, (before you say it, I know Leeds (scum) are higher but even now I can't acknowledge them as a footall team). This is a situation I could never have envisioned happening in my life time. Now this in no way is meant as an insult to Doncaster Rovers who I applaud on their efforts (despite yet another unusal shall we say ownership)but I think it more a reflection of the harm that has been done to football by the introduction of Maxwells billions!

My only comment on this thread and i know why football is
normally a no go, Terry i support Leeds have done since i
was little so over 40 years, been to home games but not
for a long while i believe it too be too expensive, i do
not like being called Leeds scum this seems to go back
over a number of years like most teams they will have
good and bad supporters so the term scum hurts, rant over.
Good luck to all teams in the championship because no one
knows who is going to win it.

We are planning to take 'B.A' from Stalham to Wroxham (Hoveton) get her berthed up safely then get the train to Norwich for the game.  Going for a pint before hand seems like a good idea and rude not too. Depending on the train times and where a suitable drinking hole is near to Carrow Rd.

Stevie, as a keen motorcyclist you get 'used' to accidents and losses and i myself was 2 seconds from a major pile up a few years ago, a group of 10 of us where out from a bike shop in norwich doing the country roads, when a biker lost conrol on a bend coming the other way and took my mate out, he ended up in hospital for 9 months and is still not 100% fit, in the space of about 10 second it could have been anyone of of us.But it didn't stop him, he now has a bif twist and go yamaha and he won't let his injuries beet him. Cant see ODriscoll going anywhere at the moment,if he was going he would have gone after the game, and anyway
the chairman head hunted him to come to Donny, so the only way would be for him to resign,so glag he didnt do that.I think Leeds Utd have every chance of makeing the play offs,on a good run, scoreing goals, confidece is high, good young manager in Simon Grayson.....Shows there is life after Mr Beckford.

All the boy's were running around enjoying themselves

"You ok sweatheart?" she say's.

"Yes miss" he replies.

I’m sure if the binners where were City are they would lord it over us at every opportunity, you should have heard them when we were relegated.

One work colleague had the audacity to describe Ipswich as one of the big clubs.
And some Leeds fans have done little to ingratiate themselves with fans of the so called small clubs in div 2&3 sorry Championship and 1.

That said I know there are many genuine and decent Leeds fans and somewhere I’m sure there are one, possibly two decent town fans (just kidding)

Having been thro the Roeder years and felt the agony of relegation we are making the most of our current success.

Now for the bit I may regret, I have confidence in my team I’m prepared to bet the Leeds fans £50.00 that’s fifty pound Norwich finish higher than they do.
(Fingers crossed that no one takes me up on this)

All moneys going to the forum coffers or a charity of the forums choice.

Truth is if we finish in the top ten I will be happy, didn’t expect in my wildest dreams we would have the season we have, to be fair I thing all the promoted teams this season have done really well.

grahker    -- Mar-10-2011 @ 8:11 PM
joking apart i think your assessment of norwich is pretty close to that which i hold for leeds, i would have settled for a top half finish at the start of the season but would still be over the moon having a bit of a go in the play offs, if we can sort that leaky defence we may even better that!! i actually dont mind norwich & even wanted them to go up with us last season maybe not in that order but at least we got out of that awful division eventually.

graham

wotnofish    -- Mar-10-2011 @ 8:30 PM
Graham you have a point when we were relegated it felt like the end of the world (non football fans won’t understand that comment) thought we were in some sort of football purgatory.
I don’t know if you where in a position to attend many away game, me and my son have been avid away followers for the last six years, we thought some of the grounds where quite nice to visit.
We met allot of really nice fans who you have to admire for following clubs with little chance of success.
So my point is yes an awful league but not as bad as I thought it would be.
I have been to Elland Rd a couple of times I suspect it’s a different place when it’s sold out, enjoyed both trips maybe we will return when you join us in the prem, fingers crossed.

I am with Graham on this would have been happy for a top
half finish and yes i was also pleased Norwich went up.
If big if we get to the holy grail of the Premiership i
hope we don.t become a yoyo club or we spend money we
have not got and then spend the next few years scrimping
and scraping.
Elland Road full is a special place.

Now you’ve gone and spoilt it, I just can’t see the point in cricket.
Now if you had said motorcycle racing that would be different.

This league is going to the wire, any of the top ten could still make playoffs or the second spot.
Come on you yellows.

" Now you’ve gone and spoilt it, I just can’t see the point in cricket.

Tut, tut, tut...  Smile
People from Leeds do not always get it wrong.
I am a totally convinced atheist. But if there was a God, inventing Cricket would have been his activity on the seventh day... (he may even have had time to invent Rugby Union also).
As a general sports fan I follow Football too.

But Motorcycle racing...
In my view anything that has an engine involved or any other variable that can allow the second best to consistently win, struggles to meet the criteria of the word "sport".
Surely sport should be about the skill, fitness, mental strength etc of the players rather than their equipment.
I accept that this is not a universally held view but no one has ever given me an convincing argument against it.
Each to their own I guess.

gramarg    -- Apr-4-2011 @ 3:09 PM
The money over skill argument it does happen no denying when you can afford the best it's a definite advantage.
Now if any one has ever heard of Andy Burton (rally driver) you will see where this goes, Andy built his own rally car a very special peugeut 306 with a silly engine (sorry but memory has blanked) Andy won lots of races with this car and beat many works cars, they protested that his car does not confirm to holomagation i.e not in any partciular group so his car is going to have to stop and all becuase he can beat the money men, British rallying used to great at this but it now is becoming very expensive and why historic rallying is gaining in popularity.

Norwich as a team could be classed as second best and still we constantly win
.
As for other peoples sport I learned a long time ago not to enter into the, this sport is better than that sport argument.

I only mentioned cricket as there are so many yorkies on here.

I fell in love with bike racing when I was fourteen, a love affair that Has gone from strength to strength.
I like football but it will always be my second choice sport.
I understand the engine over muscles point but all I will say is try it and see how fit you need to be to compete.
And yes I have done it, to old now takes too long to mend these days.

Now back to the footy, COME ON You Yellows- six nil- QPR were coming for you.
Even when Leeds get a good result Norwich over shadow them.

As I keep saying going up up up.

Exile    -- Apr-5-2011 @ 12:46 AM

Years ago I read an article (The Times if my memory serves me well) in which the writer stated his view that;
1. A True Sport is played by athletes,  either with a ball or it's variants, or is an unaided race, throw or leap.  (football, athletics, hockey etc).
2. A Sporting activity is any event that involves anything mechanical who's variables can impact on the result. But REQUIRES athletic prowess (F1, cycling, Sailing etc)
3. A Game is anything that anyone could possible win regardless of their physical status. (Snooker, darts, chess etc).

That may not be wholly fair but it probably does have at least some merit.

wotnofish    -- Apr-5-2011 @ 9:27 AM
  Difficult to argue with.
I wonder how the organisers of the Olympics feel about some of their sports falling into the sporting activity bracket.
As for motorcycle racing I will still love it whatever category it falls into.

i like most sports and often support the underdog, i prefer most sports that have an engine and then footie and rugby, cricket but in no particular order, like the banter what goes with it and i think thats where we are on here lots of good natured banter, well done mods for letting it run.

It is a shame that some ipswich fans caused trouble before the match and then blocked the road bridge to the station after the match to stop city fans going home. Sore losers!! A minority of people again get the headlines. Mad

wotnofish, it was a blood bath really and i know Norwich far out classed ipswich and have all season and i personally wish Norwich well (just not too well Wink ) we have had our team ripped apart by Mr Keane and its going to take a couple of years to rebuild. I did see trouble before the match - both sets as bad as each other and all need to get a life. there is no need for violence, throw abuse by all means its a good laugh but not punches.

Donny are now just about safe for all intents and purposes, we would have been proper safe on Monday if the ref hadn't been so shocking.

Leeds let us and themselves down AGAIN - no surprise there then

Good luck for Norwich, I absolutely want to see them gain automatic promotion although I will miss the derby's and visiting Carrow Rd next season
