Topic: difficulty in boarding website

onlydieselonly    -- Dec-15-2008 @ 8:21 PM
I thought there was a computery type section for this but as im failing to see one I will post here!

Is it only myself or does anyone else have difficulty in getting onto this website? when I finally do it takes a long time for each page to open, maybe its a cookie thing? maybe someone will have the answer!

It's not you. This site is always slow. In fact, by NBF standards, it's quite fast at the moment.
I use a tabbed browser and have this forum on one tab and all the other forums I post to on the other tab. In that way, you have something to do while it is loading. It works for me.

  ok thanks
I wonder why this is?

Hi yes it isn`t just you or your equipment I have the same problem but gathered it was normal when I first started using the site, especially moving between threads can be a problem usually make a coffee or pour a glass while waiting problem only comes if I change to often then the glass seems to get shallower i.e needs filling more often and also have the radio playing this helps,
given the efforts that must go into running the site and the facilities available I don`t regard it as to big a problem as the rewards outway the problems.

As noone has mentioned it, if the main server is running slow and you replace the 'www' bit in the address with 'backup' you can slip in the backdoor and it's often faster but you may not see pictures Smile :

When you consider the amount of data stored I dont think things are slow. Leisurely perhaps, but then again this is a Norfolk Broads Forum, therefore a leisurley pace is to be encouraged.

Do the Womack Herons rush when taking their strolls?
Do we advocate speeding on the rivers?
NO!

Then why feel the need to rush for pages to load peeps?
This is after all a free, invaluble resource to many. Long may it continue.... Smile

at the moment i'm loading pages in 5 yes 5 seconds, plenty fast enough for me.,must be the advantage of cable modems.
the only slow page is the index page(30 secs.)but i always use the active discussions page as an entry page.

regards,mike
why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?

Hi small observation today, because of publicised
problem with explorer have loaded google chrome, may
be a coinsidence but seems to be quite a bit faster,
need to try for longer but might be worth someone else
giving it a try.

Chrome opens up its own can of worms regards security.  Firefox would be my choice if you are worried about IE - there is even a plugin that makes Firefox behave like IE.

But - here is the location of the patch for i.e for those that haven't found it: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-078.mspx
