Topic: On a boat built in Catfield

Yes I know this isn't a 'Broads Holiday Experience', but I wanted to post a brief report on the boating holiday in Ireland we've just returned from.

This was our first boating holiday across the Irish sea & what a fantastic holiday it was.

We hired from Aghinver Boat Company on Lough Erne (on the west side of Northern Ireland) & we had a Haines 32 built by Haines Marine in Catfield in 1997.

We cruised the whole of the Erne to Belleek in the north-west corner down to Belturbet, then down the Shannon-Erne Waterway to some way south of Carrick-on-Shannon. Wonderful & we will go back!

The area has many lovely things to appeal to Broads lovers. Lovely scenery, brilliant sunsets, complete absence of crowds, no low bridges, I could go on.

  If I am not mistaken
Is that not annother Norfolk built boat in the background?
Crown of Sommerlayton?
Alpha Craft?

You mean the other Starboard then...

It is indeed Rod. It's an 'Elegance' which is built by Connoisseur in Wroxham. In Ireland its branded as Emerald Star although in France it appears under the Connoisseur name. It looks very nice but at 13ft 6 wide it must be a bit of a barge to try & drive anywhere.

Good boat builders Haines, Met them at a boat show some years ago, super boats and lovely people.

It certainly was a quality boat. Indeed the entire boatyard fleet was Haines-based & all were superb. The owners kindly let us spend the 2 hours we had to wait for our transfer back to the airport sitting on one of their other boats, a Haines 35 & it was beautiful.

Here's another pic at one of the best mooring spots (Haughton's Shore on the Shannon-Erne waterway) with the Haines 35 in the background.

The last two boats to be built by Mistralcraft before they finally closed also went to Ireland.

That's a nice-looking fleet and entirely comprised of former production Broom models - I like the sound of that.. And on a waterway I've yet to experience. Hmmm......

Go on Jonzo, go for it!
