I am flying to Norwich on May 10th to take over a Richardsons boat for 10 days along with my 3 Czech crew. No problem whatsoever until I read that the four of us must pay a 10 pound each airport re/development charge prior to our homeward departure. Norwich and Newquay appear to be the only U.K. airports to apply this charge which I view with the utmost distaste. Has anyone any knowledge of improvements, etc at Norwich Airport in recent years or is it just another good old British scam.
Personally, I find that less iniquitous than at Stansted, where just to drop passengers off (or pick them up) you’re now charged four quid for up to 10 minutes; stay longer than that and it’ll cost you an additional £1 per minute.
So Norwich Airport is owned by the Rigby Group which owns several other U.K. airports none of which imposes this dubious charge. The only reason for the 10 pound pp imposition appears to be solely for the enhancement of company revenue/profit. This charge was already being levied by the previous owners but Rigby Group have declined to abolish what is obviously a good money for old rope situation. Brian.
I do know one of the improvements was to invest in super fast ticket machines so they could take your money speedily
However look at it like this. It is a lot less then getting a taxi from Stansted or Southend which are the nearest options if the few airlines using Norwich moved out because the landing slots were too expensive.
