Brilliant news! The previous removal of James Knight from Yare House was nothing short of disgraceful. Perhaps JP would care to comment.

I must admit that I'm in two minds about this.

I have nothing against james in the slightest.

But he did get kicked out of the BA committee system because he was trying to use his position to help his business basically. Posting on your own internet stage when you are also in a position to effect change that might be favorable to your own business is not too bright, actually bloody stupid.

But he's been elected as a council member, a very good thing.

I think I've only met James a couple of times, and seemed to be a very nice chap. BUT I had to slap him down when he started using The Forum to promote his business, but didn't want to pay for it. And he never has, probably never will.

The BA's committees mostly appear to have a majority of members that have a financial interest in the recommendations they make. Remember the great Toll Raid??? Not helping the Broads, but assisting their business interests.

Think about it folks, I could of course be totally wrong, only time will tell.

Let's judge James on what he does, not what he might or might not have done some time ago now. As for his recent removal, he questioned an officer's advice, is that really a crime? Some might argue that that is what us stakeholders should be able to expect of Authority members.

I'm with Richard on this and also cautious. As an elected councillor myself some years ago, there is a requirement, by law, to declare interests. As someone who clearly does have a big interest in the matters that the BA deals with, I'm a tad surprised that a council has actually nominated him. I'm always sceptical when folk get elected/appointed to bodies that control areas where that person has a pecuniary interest. Whilst I'm not for a minute suggesting anything questionable will or has happened, I just don't like it.

Trevor, I am largely in agreement with what you have written as a general principle. However, where James is concerned he and both sides of his family are well known right across the Broads establishment, both boating and conservation. Not only that, the Authority maintains a register of members interests and the standards are stringent. I firmly believe that in that respect we are well protected. Those of us who know James, and I've known him for over ten years now and his brothers for a lot longer have every confidence in him. However folk who don't know him are right to be cautious. Thank goodness that he has been selected, we need members who question and stand up to poor decisions by the Executive.

Me too!!! Throughout my life and in business, there are often two ways to deal successfully with every issue and on balance, I have found that "arbitration" and talking about an issue, generally works!

Others kick off and make a huge fuss, sometimes wrongly and at the expense of others, and even then do not always achieve what they wish to!!

I will watch his progress again with interest, but I fear it will not be long before he is conflict again with someone else!!!!

I like that. Are we going to apply it to everyone in the BA? ??

Now thats a bit controversial - some, especially on other Forums, have very large chips on their shoulders from long, long ago!!! It tends NOT to enable them to be able to portray a balanced view!!
