Hi. We're looking to hire a boat for a week or midweek to go along with a riverside holiday cottage we've rented. Struggling to find anyone who can supply one. Ideally it would need to carry 5 adults + 1 well behaved dog. Doesn't have to be a "dayboat" but we want to keep the cost low.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your first port of call would be Sandersons in Reedham to see if they can supply anything, though you may have already tried them. Next nearest would be St Olaves, the other end of the New Cut so around 30 to 45 mins cruise away. The Bridge Stores there hire day boats - there link:

Hope this helps

If Sandersons don't have a small cruiser available try Freedom at Thorpe otherwise the alternatives are at Potter Higham (both sides of old bridge)or from Beccles or the Waveney River Centre but all are almost half an hour away by car as indeed is St Olaves

The problem with day boats at Reedham is that the strong tidal flows means that handling even heavier boats can be a problem.  If based in Reedham I would suggest going by car perhaps to different locations on different days.  For Example take the ferry and pick up a boat for a day from Pacific in Loddon or perhaps try one of the yards in Beccles maybe even Oulton Broad that way you will see different bits of the rivers, there are a lot of reed-beds immediately round Reedham but not much else LOL

Hi Matt You dont say where the cottage is. try local boat hire or ask the landlord for his advice, some come with a day boat or as Bill said why not go to a different place each day and hire one for the day,Do book in advance, most hire yards Herbert Woods, Freedom, Hippersons at Beccles have car parking available for hires, a day boat will only go so far in a day.John

Hi there ,
As you have found out   Your going to be hard pushed to get a day boat for reedham , I would suggest speaking to Sanderson marine at reedham , he may hire you a cruiser for the day ? A part from that it's having a drive around for day launch in areas, there is a new day launch company at Thorpe green " Bishy Barney Boats "  on the yare , good luck
