Sad news; a man who did so much to raise the profile of angling.

He was trying to sell up and return to Norfolk some time ago.

Shame he didnt make it.   Not a fisherman myself but always liked his programs and his laughter.   Will be truly missed by a lot of people.

I cruise on THE NORFOLK BROAD as I can not cruise on something that is NOT.

Great guy,he must have been responsible for tens of thousands of kids (and adults) trying fishing for the first time. His tackle shop in Norwich was a must stop for all anglers visiting the Broads, he must have been sick of people coming in asking the best places to fish but he always came across as though he had all the time in the world to chat about fishi g.
He will be missed

if it is to be it is up to me.

Unutterably sad. Norfolk will miss you John, I remember the shop in Bridewell well back in my College days and the banter the next day after the broadcasts. Rest carefully Wilson!

Growing up in my early teens go fishing was one programme I looked forward to on ITV on a Thursday night after speedway. Some friends and I followed his route around Sweden in 1991. Great fishing, a good laugh and an inspiration to my kids today, He will indeed be missed.
