Not many of them on the Broads and haven't seen any for sale here for some time. However there is quite a selection of narrow boats for sale here.

Can only echo what Steve51 has said - very rare on The Broads.

But,  there are some great websites out there with lots for sale across pretty wide budgets. Where are you aiming to keep it? - then you can look in the surrounding areas, though you can go further afield of course as it's easy to move one around on the canal system, unlike the locked in Broads where you'd have to trailer it in.

www.bwml.co.uk covers a few different marinas nationally I think.

Good luck, and enjoy your search.

There is at least one possibly two for sale at Ripon Motor Boat Club. One is 32ft and very high spec , the other is slightly shorter and maybe not quite as good

Unless you specifically want a narrow boat, I would suggest you get better value for money from a traditional Broads cruiser.

A 50' narrow boat will give you slightly less internal space than a Bounty 30 for example. You would pay a similar sum for the annual toll, but mooring fees would be substantially more. At an average £50 per foot, that's an extra £1000 per year and 50' moorings are a bit like hen's teeth. Just a thought.  Smile

I was always under the impression that the BA has limits on boat size, maximum length of 45 feet and beam of 12 foot 6 inches, have I been wrong for 25 years!

I did think that visiting boats, on short term tolls,  could breach these limits But not remain permanently on the Broads?

John.

There are limits on length and beam, but from memory it applies to sections like the Ant and Chet.

I should have added that I only used the 50' bit for comparison.

Yes, I remembered that boat too. It was for sale for a very long time, so I guess demonstrates the point made earlier that The Broads and narrow boats don't really go hand in hand.

A few years ago when discussing this very subject, somebody said that this was due in part to the fact that 60 feet doesn't go round corners easily ! Hence the limitations on length allowed I assume. And having hired 67 feet of narrow boat a couple of years back, to navigate along many miles of the mostly straight canals of Shropshire and Wales, I have to agree that any angled turn at junctions and bridges represent quite a challenge!

Waterside didn`t have it for long though and that one was a small one by canal boat terms. Out of interest what is the longest boat around?
