This is not something I do very often, and certainly something I don't enjoy doing. But the cupboard is looking a bit barren these days. So I'm asking for your help. Running this site costs a lot of money, not just in hardware, software and bandwidth, but also my time. If you feel that the site is worth something to you, why not chip in a couple of quid a month, the price of a couple of beers or a magazine. Just going through last months books, outgoings $390, income (donations and google revenue) $180. What will you get out of your donation, well not a lot really, apart from my appreciation. What will happen if you don't donate, well a piano could land on your head, you might win the lottery, but you'll still be a Broads lover, and that's just fine with me. A monthly subscription is a real help, as at least I can have a rough idea of what's going on, currently the monthly subscription income is at £42. To be honest, if you've got a fiver to spare the NSBA is the best value in town for a year.

quote:"...... What will you get out of your donation, well not a lot really, apart from my appreciation ......." I'd like to think most members get considerably far more than that from the site Richard, I know we do. Come on guys, whats a couple of quid a month? far better value than most of todays tabloids..

Hi Richard, well hopefully there will be some money made in September at the WRC meet, with James Knights blessing, i will be offering a Mini Hog Roast on the Saturday tea time, with Large Hot Roast Pork baps with Stuffing and Apple Sauce for £2 each, and breakfast Sunday Bacon or Sausage baps for £1.50 each, or Big Breakfast Baps, sausage+egg+bacon for £2 each, as well as hot soup and hot drinks throughout the meet. I will donate all the food stuffs i will be using, and EVERY PENNY TAKEN will be divided equilly between SITE FUNDS and RNLI, so come on everyone, sign up and pop down for an hour or two, meet other members, enjoy the food and a few drinks, and help Richard out with site funds, i promise you wont be dissapointed with food quality, and you will be getting something good for your money! Also there is a possibility of entering in the angling match suggested and being run by Jenny Morgan if we can get enough members intrested, We need a minimum of six entrants to run this one, so please pm either me or JM if you are intrested. Each fiver entrance fee will go to Site Funds, and there will be a good top prize for the winner. look forward to meeting you all

How sad that this has needed to be mentioned again, and so soon! Last time this was discussed: http://www.the-norfolk-broads.co.uk/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=22&Topic=4850 I had no idea what a site like this would cost to run, and prior to this I had (foolishly) been reluctant to contribute as I thought the ammount that I could spare would be seen as too small to be significant. I am not a prolific poster on this site, but I do get a great deal of pleasure from reading it every day, so felt that I ought to be contributing at least something. So I asked what I thought was a very embarassing question about the site costs, and then having done some simple calculations, could see that what I could contribute would be ok if most of the regular site users did about the same. I was very pleased to set up a subscription for this ammount, and to contiue enjoying the site (guilt free!!). I just feel that it`s a bit disappointing that more have not done the same. If everyone who gets enjoyment either from posting or reading this site was to contribute just a little bit, it needn`t be costing Richard anything, and lets face it it SHOULDN`T be costing him anything! Please think about it!

I just did a quick calculation dividing my total contribution, so far, by my number of posts. I won't embarass myself or anyone else by saying what the answer was, but it was chastening - well short of the cost of a second class stamp per post, no stationery costs and the message got to hundreds of people (most times!) and my wit and wisdom has, so far been preserved for posterity. No charge for the fun obtained or results achieved. All in all, a bargain. But don't let's risk losing it by asking Richard to subsidise the site out of his holiday fund. Phil

There are so many reasons to why we should do this....Well done Richard for bringing it to light again... I have made so many friends, who some I have never met, some who I have and some who have become one way or another very dear and close to me...that is just so priceless... Leigh and I could be floating about friendless without any of you lot...you may say that would be better...!!! My contribution today is a gesture before my other bills need to be paid...Richard, (darn, there was a lovely pair of heels in Roys!!!) It does not reflect how I feel about the site and what you have done, and about all the fantastic people I have come to know and love here.. If I could offer what it meant to me then I would be so bankrupt... Thats what I reckon anyway...long overdue for me so my apologies for not doing it sooner....
