We are back on the Broads this week. We picked up the sailing boat on Saturday from Eastwood whelpton. Had a play up and down to Acle.We had an amazing evening meal in Pedro's. Staff very accommodating and food beautifully tasty. Very hot on the boat so I slept outside on the back.
Sunday morning we sailed in light winds up to Horning as we had the mooring booked at the New Inn. Very friendly lad helped us moor up. While we were sat having an Aspalls(as you do) we overheard a fellow boat talking who all seemed very sad and distressed. They were talking about contacting the police and the vets! We got the jist of things that they had lost a dog. My wifes cogs started turning and she informed them she remembered seeing a dog on the bank near St Benet's abbey. After seeing photos of the dog it was confirmed as the missing pooch. She wasn't too concerned at the time as there was people on the mooring so presumed it was from a boat. The lifejacket on their other dog gave it away. After we showed them on the map where to look and a dash down in the car and the help of the Broads Rangers the doggie was found and reunited. Life couldn't get better on Saturday night and I blubbered like a baby and we all celebrated in The New Inn with another fantastic meal and much Aspalls cider.
Monday to Salhouse after breakfast in the Staithe and Willow then the Fur and Feather for Lunch to celebrate the misses birthday.
A spirited sail in good strong winds was very much fun as we upskittled various kitchen gadgets along the way through Horning to Cockshoot for the night. Another hot night so an outdoors sleep and bitten alive.
Today a stop for Pizzas and Thatcher's at Ranworth for lunch then a sail in light winds and the opportunity to learn my non sailing Son a few things which was good. We went up to Potter heigham and demasted for the first time on a big sailboat,(Quite straight forward really). Pilot shot us through the bridge and we remasted the boat and had a Slush ice from near Latham's to cool down. By chance our level 2 instructor from last year's course happened by with another sailor wanting tips on the boat he hired.Had a lovely catch up and now waiting for my chippie tea while the kids waiting for their Golden Inn Chinese from Horning being delivered. Next two days up to West Somerton and Horsey should be good fun.
So far life is as brilliant as the weather is.??.

Incidentally, the people who lost their dog had left Ranworth and travelled to Horning. It was quite surprising how far the little dog had drifted downstream to end up at St Benet's moorings! Thankfully it had a lifejacket on.
It's the first time I've had good data so far so forgive my late postings.

Today we sailed from Potter Heigham with the wind on a perfect line all the way to,ahem, nearly to West Somerton but someone left the bridge shut! We motored upwards when the bridge opened due to the boatyard gentleman very kindly contacted a gentleman from Martham village with a key to open the bridge for us.
We soon found too much reed in the water so turned 180 and sailed back to Martham boatyard. We contacted the boatyard our boat is from to ask the options for clearing weed and after following the instructions we had cleared any weeds from the prop. We had a look at their beautiful boats including the brand new Broads Martham cruiser just built. Seeing is believing how stunning it is.
We then set off sailing and learned Robert a few more sailing skills on short fast tacks and sailed up to the Pleasure boat Inn at Hickling for yet another wonderful meal and various different ciders. Camambert with Rosemary and Garlic bread,Grilled Halloumi salad and chips for me,the misses and daughter to share. The boys had Fish and chips for one and Hunters chicken for the other.
All wonderful. We needed a taxi but alas all busy so a local very kindly drove us into Stalham in his beautiful Jaguar to the Chemists an back then a few more ciders!??.
A nice steady downwind sail for the nights moorings at Deep dyke now.Sun shining, life's good,it was pay day too.??.
Tomorrow hopefully Horsey and the seals at the coast.

Nearly forgot, the sweets were heavenly too. We had a nice chat at the pub with some folks from twenty miles from our house as well in Yorkshire.

Well that was nice! An open river tour wildlife boat full of tourists just flew past us far faster than any holiday cruiser late for the tide at Yarmouth.
Daughter in the shower and the boat rocking wildly. Kitchen gear all over the floor,
Nice respect to the moored boats.??
