We just got back from our week (4/9 to 11/9) on the north broads, and quiet it wasn't.

Was this an unusual week on the broads? You couldn't find a gap at almost all the B.A. moorings for love nor money. We squeaked in at Ludham staithe (womack was full), failed to get in twice at Ranworth, and failed to get in at Sutton staithe and Neatishead.

My cruising has mainly been in the south, and it is to there I will be back next year. What a shame.

Having said that, we had memorable meals at the Norfolk Mead Hotel (after Barnes kindly got their boat under Wroxham bridge for us), and the Bure River Cottage Restaurant. Both highly recommended.

"Quiet it Wasn't" - mores the pity,  it used to be fantastic at this time of year.   Lots of couples out in smaller boats.     Dream on I think is the expression now.  More like the second circle of hell at times.

Well, I suppose the four moorings mentioned are all very popular and are usually full. I was out and about the same time and moored at How Hill, Paddy’s Lane, Fleet Dyke and Cockshoot with no problems. ??

With kind regards

There is no easy solution. On my recent jaunt to the South, I got in at Geldeston Lock, but the mooring soon filled up, the new mooring opposite Dutch Tea Gardens was full, as was Reedham. Much depends on your time of arrival - the ones occupying the full moorings obviously found a space.

Been hit by another boat? Report the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s dedicated accident reporting line on 023 8023 2527 which is monitored 24 hours a day.  Help to make the Broads safer.

Bluebell - "moored at How Hill, Paddy’s Lane, Fleet Dyke and Cockshoot with no problems"

We did spend one night at How Hill (and had a nice walk round the Nature Walk the next morning), but there's no pub at the others you mention.  Smile

All those pubs - unfortunately, I can no longer walk that far (duff ankle), two miles is about my limit on a good day. Getting older is no fun, but still better than the alternative.  Smile

Or the Credit Card has had a bashing.  May be equity release.   Both I would call extremely unwise.
