I don't know if anybody was aware but the ex landlord of the White Horse in Upton, Ray Norman (Winkle) has sadly passed away. Many a pleasant evening was spent in the White Horse by myself and my colleagues of the BOR. RIP Winkle
best wishes PD

I also regret the passing of Winkle. A real character who will be sadly missed by many people. Another part of Broads history gone, but hopefully not forgotten. I remember him as a real bluff, gruff sort of landlord who appeared to treat every one who came into the pub as if they were a nuisance. However this was all a front as once you were in and had a drink in your hand he became one of the most warm and welcoming landlords on the Broads. The food in the White Horse was second to none, especially the Steak pie which was delicious. Lovely man. Rest in peace Winkle. you are gone but not forgotten.
