The group that would benefit most from the proposed new Tolls structure is the sailing fraternity, that is the group that would see the largest percentage of vessels pay less. This is a group that already pays less per square foot than the majority of other users, is it any coincidence that the bulk of the members of the Navigation Committe come from a sailing background.
What is the justification for the toll rate being less for a Yacht than it is for a Motor Cruiser when much of the expenditure (dredging, tree reduction on the banks, provision of demasting moorings etc) benefits the Yachting community far more than it does the motor community?

Can I ask why the boat tolls for yacht's are not calculated to include that 'Jousting Pole'(Bowsprit) when it is that which takes up so much extra room at moorings?
The older I get... The better I was....!!

I don't know the answer although any yacht with an engine greater than 10hp is then classed as a motor cruiser. Generally speaking the way the tolls are calculated by using the formula length x beam is wrong as the majority have less area for and aft than in the widest part. Cheers Mat
Is that still the case Mat? The new structure only mentions Motor Cruisers £12.85 Motorised Yachts £9.5 and Yachts £8.00 II can't see anywhere in the new proposal that there is any Engine size limit on a motorised yacht. I could of course have missed it. Out of interest what about Yachts that carry a small "clip on" outboard, what rate do they pay?
From my understanding Dave my own yacht which has a 3hp outboard to assist getting in and out of my mooring is classed as an auxiliary yacht and I pay more than a yacht without an engine. 10hp and above is classed as a cruiser. Cheers Mat
