I suspect that few boats actually use "real" maps anymore? Surely its just a question of gps/ais plus online charts. Yes I know these can fail but no worse than not updating charts which I suspect rarely happens these days either!

Latest update on the two Russian oil tankers - NS Champion is now heading for the Danish port of Skagen and NS Challenger is just about to exit the English Channel, bound for Sardinia.

Been hit by another boat? Report the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch’s dedicated accident reporting line on 023 8023 2527 which is monitored 24 hours a day. Help to make the Broads safer.

Some smaller vessels may still use paper charts but various requirements mean most vessels use ECDIS(Electronic Chart Display and Information System)
