This looks interesting, the canals were amazing feats of engineering.I think we're still allowed to look back at that part of history fondly. The engineer's themselves were fantastic, the people who worked on the narrow boats were such a tough breed, but most of all the navvies who physically dug the canals deserve to be remembered.
And amazingly they are still being used to this day, we had our boat on the Lancaster Canal for 8yrs its a tribute to the engineers and builders back in the day. The "Lanky" is a hidden gem, 40 miles of lock free cruising.
And a lot of those Navvies also went on to build the spectacular Ribblehead Viaduct.

The TV Channel "Yesterday" did a good program about Railway Architecture that included the building of this viaduct. Some may also recall the TV drama "Jericho" which was also based around the navvies camp.

The Ribblehead viaduct is spectacular. The "Harry Potter" film makers could have saved themselves lots of time and mileage using Ribblehead instead of Glenfinnan.
Women and cats do as they please..Men and dogs better get used to the idea!
