Sorry I have to disagree £3,000 for a week from Caley Cruisers is not comparable.

Not sure where you get £3000.  The most expensive I could find on their website is £2667 in high season, which compares with a Richardsons Broadlander or similar  But equally they have a boat for a max price of £1030.  As I said just like the Broads you can pay a lot, but you can also get something for a lot less.  One of the other boathire companies on the Caledonian has boats for less than £800 in high season.  You may not get 240 volts or mod cons, but it depends on what you want, doesn't it.

For anyone wanting a first canal trip the Oxford Canal is a bit of a gem. Being a contour canal it has fewer locks, it is very rural, has some great canal history attached. L.T.C Rolt and Cressy started in Banbury. Upper Hayford is a great place to start.

Please leave the water and

I saw quoted once
3 x double berths in comfort boats between £3500 and £4500 for the week.

I cannot imagine that Broads boat even with all bells and whistles would cost that much.

Our two weeks on the Broads are going to cost nearly £3,000.

It is a very short season up there so that is why the boats are so expensive.   Plus they are sea going boats.  Nothing like the Broads waters , you have to adhere to what you are told.    This has been our experience.

We went with Caley Cruisers in June one year and I think it was £1500 thereabouts.   That was about 16 years ago.

Hi Hylander.  I am puzzled where you've got your figures from. I've looked on the Caley website and their most expensive boat for this year is shown as prices between £1677-£2667.
We were there in June this year and our boat cost us £1245 for the week, quite comparable with a what we have paid in the past for a similar standard of broads boat. Smile

May be the article I read was not referring to Caley.
It was also early May.

The price you quote seem very reasonable.

Hi Monica,

That was the quote I had from Le Boat in May about three years ago, the price then was for a 8 berth boat that we needed to get 3 double berths without a couple not having to use a dinette (these on boats are usually dire and nobody wants to draw the short straw)

The boats at that time we were looking at were between £3500 to £4500 with almost £500 being added by the Le Boat extras, fuel deposit, waiver addition parking for second car ect.

In the end the price was too expensive so we went on the Scottish Canals instead at £1700 for a 65 foot narrow boat.

Regards
Alan
