"The three bridges are an important part of our railway heritage."

Who cares about the heritage - just give us something that works! They must all be well past their designed lifespan so its time they were replaced. Oops! renovation for another 25 years life is much cheaper of course - if they last the 25 years.

By and large, Andy, my view is that if you wish to cruise the Broads buy a suitable boat - if you wish to cruise the S North Sea, don't buy a Broads boat.  Horses for courses!!

Large boats have been traveling on the Yare since before these bridges were built
Without the boats  that need the bridges opening BA would be significantly poorer along with the local economy
Funding to revamp these bridges seems to be available but to say the work won’t be complete until 2024 is an absolute joke another case of a government body run by idiots who have never done a proper days work
Just get on with it and help the local economy

Marshman: I have a suitable boat, thank you. Personally, I don't need any of these bridges to open for me - but others do. These bridges were designed & built to open for good reasons  (I can still remember commercial boats traveling to Norwich). The Broads boats these days were designed in the full knowledge that they would need these bridges opened - that is to say - opening as they are supposed to do.
Also, my boat is quite capable of handling the N Sea - she was used out of Falmouth for 15 years. So, don't tell me to get a boat that is suitable for either The Broads OR the N. Sea.
