Where to start... Some of you will maybe recognise me from my signature picture taken some time ago when I was not at my best and facing an uncertain future. I had arrived at Thorpe under tow having been found drifting along the waveney. It was suggested that I had been set adrift following some sort of dispute between my owner and the mooring owner but I was asleep at the time (it was night) and the only clue was my ropes coiled up on deck rather than trailing behind me. Those chaps at Thorpe had me safely tied up but various items had been removed from me including my batteries, hence my memory loss. My registered owner was found but evidentally he had sold me in one of those drinking places (the ones you humans seem to have problems walking back to us boats from) a few days earlier! Of course I would love to know what happened to get me to such a state or maybe someone out there can fill in my missing years. I was Highlight 6 originally and Ayesha when all this took place.
If I am a "woody" how come there are no "fibreglassy's" "plasticy's" or "steelies"?

As you will have worked out by now I am no longer at Thorpe. Somebody aboard one of my kin came back for a second look and enquired about my future. I was to be broken up. Of course there had to be time for my owner to be found and months passed before anything happened but then I had visitors. This is it I thought. One of you humans boarded me and I was "inspected"... I think thats the word. Some of the more naughty amongst you had been busy though. My heating system had been ripped out along with everything else of value. There was water up to the beds, no batterys and so no pumps remember, and I had been there about four months by now. My inspection seemed strange though. There was not so much of the whats my bits worth but more of a condition check. I listened intently to what was being said and eventually it dawned on me. I was to be auctioned!

A few days later the chap came back armed with a battery and a pump and my lower areas were exposed once again. Things were looking up! I have no idea what a sealed bid auction is but a few weeks after my visitors the same chap came back again and off we set, me being towed, a journey not without its mishaps. Not mine I hasten to add but the tow boat broke down twice and we arrived at Beccles in the dark! What happened next I am not sure but it seems there was a change of plan when we were let down badly by one of the boat yards and then I was on my way to a slipway. Now I must confess I may have not have had my needs met down below for some time but to be met with quite so much amusement and banter regarding my more important areas was embarrassing to say the least. One of you humans even suggested putting the steam cleaner away and fetching a strimmer! I didn't know where to hide my shame.

JanetAnne, Welcome to the forum! It is excellent news that some kind fool has decided to devote time, money and care in restoring you to full beauty. Just to warn you, there will be pain involved both for you - having all your private places exposed to all and sundry, bits pulled off and replaced - but also for your poor deluded carer as they repeatedly have to visit a strange being you will hear referred to as the Bank Manager to get extra 'Boat Repair Tokens' Of course when I say restored to full beauty, I presume that they will be including a mast and sails so that you are not only a woodie, but a proper sailie

I think you story is going to be a very interesting one! Am looking forward to more pics. Hope you are feeling much better now and will be happier to expose yourself more in public! By the way, I have heard folk use the name "steelies" for our lovely sturdy ladies. Welcome, and keep up the story please, Karen

Wow, people talking to me, this is going to be fun! That bit about having my tender areas exposed though... tell me about it! Since my human started I have had areas exposed I don't remember old Herby Woods mates fitting in the first place. And you have some strange ideas for names. "Deadwood" - not yet it aint! Now where was I? Oh yes, Beccles. Storage. What a boring time storage is. 12 months I did... evidentally thats not long for a woody in need. I did have some protection with a decent cover which I could peer out of and lots of activity on the river to watch but except for the floating by of friends old and new it was boring boring boring. Us boats are at our best doing stuff, tides rippling along our hull and happy humans within. Then all of a sudden activity. I was to be moved but even better I was to be moved by river. Back in the water again... oh yeah! I was re putty'd, a proper ritual for us woodies. You have no idea how good it feels to be all fresh in our cracks and crevaces. Then my poor seized up old ticker was dismantled. Tell me, whats all that tutting and head shaking about? It was only a bit of rust!
