yeah hull is watertight as far as i can see, once i've done cleaning i will get her watertight from above, i think thats where water is getting in atm. then i'll be getting the engine sorted . i'll build a crossmember so i can lift the engine enough to get sump off then hopefully will be able to fire her up in situ in a matter of a day . am aiming for a running engine , clean inside and a lick of paint on outside by june 1st , then i can use her while restoring inside , re-wire ect .. will also be a good way of fault finding before winter lay up.

Good on you, Gary, you certainly don't hang about! Hope all goes well.
Regards, Ray. If it's neither here, nor there, then where is it?

Hi Gary Don't forget the leak in the stern/transom bottom corner!! I did patch it on the outside with polythene and sealant, and backed with a similar patch on the inside, which did stop the leaking. But you do need to sort this problem PDQ and I'd guess this would mean a lift out. It was quite a good flow of water in to the boat. Did you find the staple Gun?? John. First off good luck Gary, it's great to see this boat being restored after the trouble everyone's gone to getting her raised. As regards drying her out, whilst a dehumidifier might be a good idea, I'd be wary of trying to dry her out too quickly, as uneven drying may warp or open up the topsides planking. Slow and steady is the way to go. If you can get the engine running, then a trip up to Reedham and a visit to Mark's dry dock there might be a good idea. ASAP, although early June isn't ideal, I reckon John's patch to the starboard quarter should last that long. Dry docking is about the most gentle way to get a wooden boat out of the water, and would let you have a good look at that leak and the rest of the bottom. If you do that, then let me know and other engagements permitting I'll come down and cast an eye over her if you like.

i have the number for the guy with dry dock paul gave it to me the other day. am not going to put much heat in the cabin , but with the humidity atm she aint really drying, i have borrowed a gas space heater that can be turned down low but at the same time circulate air. but am hoping the sun will help the next few days .. i'll be there tomorrow from about 10am , saturday from 2pm , sunday from 2pm , monday from 2pm and next wednesday from about 10am , should get a bit done in that time , got 2 180 amp marine bats on the way , and lots of new toys inc. fuel gauge , will have to remove tank to clean propperly so thought i may as well at only £23 for the kit and a solar pannel to keep bats topped up. if anyone has some marine ply and mahogony ply for sale i could be interested. will take pics tomorrow and maybe a little vid and put it on youtube.

This is probably a "Thought" too far BUT, if you have the engine working by early June, and you have confidence in it, The Forum Meet is in late June, Do you wonder if it might be possible to get to Ranworth in the North? There will be a lot of folk there who'd love to see both you and the boat. No pressure then eh? Honesty Sincerity and Integrity ... When you can fake those, you've cracked it.

had a good day on caravelle yesterday, cleaned front and cockpit , just needs silt n rubbish digging out of very bottom of hull. theres a hole in water tank so will replace it with a plastic one, and the best news she has lifted about 4 inches out the water, so the hole in the transome is clear of the water. i put another pump and float in there too. will take some pics saturday as i was to dirty to use my camera yesterday.

Hi Gary See you are going to replace the water tank. I had to replace one of our 2 last year and after a lot of searching I came up with this company http://www.plasticwatertanks.co.uk/ run by a real genuine chap call Neil Woodhead. He custom made mine in 2 weeks! and it was so well made I hated to cover it up The really big bonus was the fantastic price just £205 delivered to my home!!!!! Can't praise his work highly enough and he is so helpful. Not to surprisingly he can get very busy so contact him as soon as you can to give him as much time as you can. John.
