"he only people who are not welcome, whether they be stag, hen, non-family, private, hirer etc etc are those who act in a disruptive and criminal manner. I haven't seen anyone, whether they are 'moaners' or 'deniers' post that this is the type of visitor they wish to see."

Again we come to the crux of the matter, what you see as diruptive and criminal manner others may not. What you see as suitable for the Broads may differ to what others deem to be suitable.

Karen what evidence do you have that people who go on stag/hen dos will not return to the Broads in the future? A sweeping statement that has no basis in fact.

There is a general perception outside Broadland and its visitors that a boating holiday, for those who want it, can feasibly consist of cruising the rivers and stopping off at any number of pubs along the way.

I say this because many many times when I am asked about our holidays the view is expressed oh it must be brilliant to hop from one pub to the next.  Numerous times I am met with disbelief when I say no it isn't at all like that.

It is no wonder that groups come to the Broads expecting that and I'm sure many will adjust to what they find.  I don't agree with the view that some will naturally resort to wanton acts to satisfy their need for "action".

We drove into Great Yarmouth earlier this week to a restaurant and for the first time ever drove along the sea front.  Now there is everything a stag do will ever want to find.  Bars, clubs a casino etc etc.  The same in Norwich on a different level so if it is action you're after it is all there.

In a weekend you'd probably have one night on the town and the rest of the time enjoying the Broads.  In short I think the area has something to offer stag do's.

On a cautionary note I can't imagine that mooring at Great Yarmouth and having a night on the town is a safe thing to do.  We have never moored there and most likely never will because the tide rise and fall seems scary.  If you've had a lot to drink I think the combination is lethal, as has been unfortunately proven elsewhere.  In mind a life jacket wouldn't be worn for a night out.

I was in a pub last weekend on the Broads at which a stag do were enjoying themselves.  Their behaviour to me was perfectly normal and taken in good spirits.  They enjoyed their drinking, the stag was dressed for the occasion (worryingly enjoying his attire a little too readily), at times loud but always respectful to the staff and other customers.  I can quite imagine some contributors on here would have felt there dinner hit their boot straps as the group descended and without doubt would have felt uncomfortable.

I agree with the view that these groups contribute much needed revenue and anything illegal should be dealt with appropriately.

I was in fact more concerned by a day boat arriving at Lime Kiln Dyke around midday this week.  They proceeded to free spots at the end of the moorings and did a "3 point turn" at full throttle back and forth before disappearing off to the village.  By the time we left the moorings had filled up and I would have feared for other vessels

The pace of life down there
suits us

Absolutely right Brian, drunken stag do reveller in the 1st (after 12 hours drinking) and doting Norfolk Broads visiting Father on the 2nd.
Just because you like a drink and to let your hair down there is no reason to assume you would not like the Broads or come back another time with your familly.

"Harlequin, first you say "Some people do not believe that stag parties should be on the Broads at all, a few say they are OK as long as they behave like a nuns outing...", then when challenged that no one had actually said, or even suggested that, you admit "No one has indeed."
It seems as if you are being argumentative just for the sake of it."

Now if ever there was a post being "argumentative for the sake of it" that one from Paladine's seems to fit the bill.
None of the three descriptions of the scenarios that I outlined in that post were quotes. Nor were any of them in quotation marks which would have indicated that they were meant to be quotes.
I was simply using my own descriptions to outline the three views being taken on this subject. ie.

1. Ban them all.
2. OK if they do not disturb me.
3. Live and let live.

None of those last three are quotes either, hence also quotation mark free. Although I do seem to remember No. 3 getting a mention or two.
