I dont know Paladine I think that suggestion would rather take care of the problem.   Playful

Better still just leave them to their mothers.

, I do believe that certain yards don't give enough hand over trials , education , or time explaining the rules etc , seen it many , many times when we were moored at broadsedge , given a quick trial  trip on the river , 10 mins later same boat comes past flat out once hand over done

I think you'll find Richardsons staff spend time explaining everything BEFORE the trial trip on the river, which comes at the end of the handover. The fact that a boat can pass 10 minutes after it is seen on a trial run doesn't mean that is all the education a crew receives.

Would it be mega expensive for each boat to have a speed sensor connected to the engine? Set it to 5mph. I know that's still fast in a 3mph area but at least its better than 10mph. Speedsters I spoke to said they were unaware of their speed and had no idea what 4mph was like? They said their boat had no speedo?
Talking to locals last night at The Ferry Horning, on Saturday 5 or 6 from a stag party abandoned their clothes and went skinny dipping right in front of the pub in view of families. A call to BB was made but they took one and a half hours to attend.

Its not the destination its the journey that matters

I believe hireboats do have a limiter, whereby the engine will not go over a certain revs, but this is only half the story where a boat's speed is concerned and takes no account of the tide. A boat with the engine revs at, say, 1200, will be travelling a lot slower against the tide than with it.

What is the attraction of taking your clothes off and jumping into a river full of god only knows what.  What makes them think the great British public want to look at their bits lopping about.   They should all be in a psychiatric ward.  How come it takes Broads Beat an hour and a half to get there.   They can get there by road.   I wonder if you had said someone had a gun how long it would have taken them. 10 minutes.

This behaviour has got out of hand,  this is not Spain or Cyprus.    Families will be going elsewhere if this becomes common practice.

It's already common practice M!!
3 years ago we witnessed a disgusting 3 boat loads of
'Yobs' at Stokesby. The sound of cracking fibreglass
could be heard the 100yds away that we were, never mind
the language. 1 private boat even left despite it was
nearly dark by this time. They even followed us to
Oulton Broad where we told the HM, who at least wouldn't
let them moor. They then went to Wherry moorings, again
with the sound of cracking fibreglass. It really made
us think if this is what we wanted to endure on our boat.
During that year, we encountered 5 lots of them which
almost made us give up boating altogether.
To be honest, we wouldn't need much more of that behaviour
to make us sell up.

The older I get...
The better I was....!!

Now that is so sad to hear Bill but quite understandable , however, it shouldn't be that decent folk have to give up their boats or holidays in hire boats to facilitate this behaviour.     What do we pay the Broads Beat for please if they are not going to stamp this out.  They are paid by the Tax Payer.  There should be a zero tolerance of this behaviour and they should be chucked off of their boats in the state of undress they are found in.

Hire companies should make it quite clear from the start that , yes have fun , have a laugh but be respectful of others and if you are not then you will be chucked off , not for the third offence but the very first time it happens.

It makes my blood boil.

Sadly BuffaloBill you are not alone. If I only had weekends I would have sold the boat or moved to different waters. Two lots of friends are leaving The Broads.

Chris.

have not tried mud weight yet!

I refer to my earlier post on this thread and think that the boatyards should re-introduce the old policy of" no all male/female parties"  if possible !!! Frown
