Its really about time something was done regarding stag parties on boats. Last weekend we had the misfortune to be at The Ferry at Stokesby Saturday lunchtime. Four massive boats arrived with around 30 lads on board. The theme was Peter Pan. All good fun it seems. Within an hour after hearing the most disgusting language they decided to wax the groom so they stripped him naked. This followed with him being thrown in the river and many of his "friends" urinating on him. When the finally left one of them stood on the bow of the boat urinating for all to see. We contacted Broadsbeat who already had received many complaints. They arranged with Barnes to have the four boats impounded. Four Barnes drivers met the party at Gt Yarmouth. Barnes had told BB that they had 30 stag boats out that weekend. How many would there be in total then? Richardsons must have doubled that. Most of the  weekend stag parties disrupted the tranquillity of the broads partying until 3am at every watering hole. Anyone got any ideas how this can be controlled ?

Yes the big question, what can be done!

I'd suggest only by dealing with the consequences as described in your post.  The message will drift back to the general public that such behaviour will not be tolerated and will most likely result in the weekend being cut short.

We can talk about the hire companies doing more to discourage such behaviour and quite probably they should be more proactive.  That said there are many stag/hen/all male/all female parties which are nothing more than like minded decent individuals looking to enjoy a relaxing time away with a few scoops thrown in.

Disgusting behaviour.  They should be locked up for indecent exposure.  I feel very strongly about this.  We have a pub and when we took over 5 years ago some individuals thought it reasonable to expose themselves in the pub.  We cut it out and never got as far as a Police complaint but I wouldn't hesitate.

The pace of life down there

How immature can you behave,  like a load of school kids.     I totally agree with what has been said, this is gross indecency and even if the brain dead of this country do not realise it , it is an offence.  They should immediately be locked up and banned from ever coming to the Broads again.   If they had half a brain they would realise that they have paid out good money to come on a holiday and for what, to make themselves look like a load of prats.   If I was the bride of the groom I would run for the hills quite frankly.

I should imagine a lot of Mum's wanting to clip the silly little sods around the ears when they get home.

The last time I went to The Ferry Inn at Stokesby there was a sign outside stating that they did not accept all male parties. I was in a party of 4 males all 60 years of age so I asked permission to go in which was granted.  This was 2013 or 2014 and I think the pub has since changed hands.

If the sign is no longer there I wouldn't be surprised if it gets reinstated.

Kind Regards
Alan...

That sign in its original format will never be re-instated as it was illegal and discriminatory. I believe in the end Adnams were informed and they made the tenant change it.

Just because The BA make a request, don't automatically assume they have the powers to make such requests!! Keeping a careful eye on an Authority which is making it's own rules.

No that's not correct. Simply put the old landlady didn't accept all male parties so erected the sign. The new landlady of under a year took down the sign because she does allow all male parties. She was partly to blame IMO as she kept serving them drink after drink shot after shot

The sign in its old format IS illegal. If it read no single sex parties, or if it read no stag OR hen parties it would be legal. You cannot discriminate on the grounds of gender.

Maybe a scheme whereby every  one sex parties must be logged with Broads Beat / BA including contact numbers of the hirers. Then have a traffic light system. Encourage via media for all offences to be reported by the public. Then the hirer is given a yellow card as in last warning sort your party out and quiet down followed by a red card and impound the boat and turf them out. Severe cases as in this case is a straight red. Explain to the hirers that it is not an idle threat it will happen if they offend. Increase the deposit to £1000 as a deterrent too

Kfurbank I wasn't saying you were wrong you are quite correct. I was saying that pressure wasn't the reason it was a simple choice of different owners that led to the sign being removed

In any case a sign saying no stag or hen parties is not discriminatory only one saying no stag parties. I have not seen too many hen parties causing problems but I may be wrong
