The BA have to take a stand. If the mooring leases are beyond market rates they should let them go. A total pain for us boaters but as with every public sector body / Quango everyone sees them as a cash cow that can be milked mercilessly.
There has been enough fuss about this years tolls...anyone fancy a further 10 to 20 percent increase to fund overpriced leases?

Its not about whether the BA can or cannot pay but as with all things, the BA MUST take advice on what is value or not, otherwise technically the toll payers could, or would be mightily aggrieved!

Of course if it ever got out that the BA were going to pay over the market rate, the queue would reach half way round the Broads of already wealthy landowners keen to make an honest crust!! Doesnt always work though  - see the Woodbastwick moorings which did not go quite to plan - except for the landowner!!!

I suspect the issue at Aldeby may have been related to that very large sheet piling which at some stage would be pretty pricey to replace.

Does anybody know if it is still possible to moor at Aldeby, albeit they are no longer BA moorings?

We passed last week- still moorable but fee payable locally. I think it was either £4 or £5 for a daytime stop or overnight.

No idea of who/how you pay.

I do hope so as we would pay £5 to moor there.  Rather that than lose the moorings altogether.

I just hope he charges the fishermen to park their cars there as well.

As a simple observation, the BA are paying out less in mooring leases year on year, so with that in mind, since it's our toll money they are not paying out, then we should see a reduction in toll fees.

Doesn't quite work that way, but I'd like to know why?

Think what the toll rise would have been without these savings.

best regards, Richard.

In my opinion, being on a boat is one of the most relaxing place to be.

No, fishermen do not have to pay to park there, but they have to pay £6 per day or £10 per night to fish there.
The bailif collects the money from the bank, so I would imagine that they would also collect the mooring fees.
Maybe they have thought that they can earn more money doing this and have not renewed the BA's lease?

Crumpets that is a bit steep £10, when over the road at Worlingham you can fish for free.   Cant see that catching on (sorry for the pun).

So if I moor overnight and fish from the bank it will cost me £15.

Would I still have to pay the fishing fee if I fished from the boat?

Could be academic as I suppose the fisherman having to move for mooring boats wouldn't apply.

After speaking to hubby who fishes at Aldeby,  you  would be fishing at the lakes and not on the river.
