Marshman, I agree with your comments 100%. Let's hope that the landowner keeps the path open from the end of September when the payments stop.

I can now confirm that this is indeed the 'footpath to nowhere'. Today Norfolk County Council have rerouted the Wherryman's Way "footpath" between the Reedham Ferry Inn and Reedham village via Ferry Road.

Marshman, I approve your sentiments. I hope you have signed the change.org petition about Hoveton Great Broad.
"perhaps the landowner concerned should forgo payment just so the public can enjoy the countryside and the paths. After all It would be nice to think that he would be pleased to share with others rather than exclude them"

Maybe its not as simple as not requiring being paid, but would the land owner then be responsible for the upkeep of the path in the future plus there is always the problems in this day and age where people are prepared to sue over a broken fingernail

I may have missed any recent postings on this subject, but in case you didn't already know, work is now underway to reinstate this section of permissive footpath, the new steps onto Station Road, Reedham being today complete, and the signposts having for some time been ready to unveil. I have been assured that within the next three to four weeks, we shall all again be able to walk along the river bank between Reedham and Reedham Ferry without having to detour along the roads.
Ask not why the path was closed in the first place, nor why it has taken so long to re-open it. Be content to thank the landowner concerned, and to know that great credit is due to one or two Reedham residents, who, with the full support and involvement of Reedham Parish Council, have managed to allay the legitimate concerns of the landowner about the existence of this footpath, to raise the significant amount of money needed to pay for its re-instatement by voluntary subscription from the Reedham community and from some interested organisations, to dot the numerous necessary i's and cross their attendant t's.
The presence of livestock on the adjacent marshes and wildlife in the reedbeds will, I understand, make it obligatory for dogs to be kept on their leads.

Could well open on 1st Oct when the riverside path to the Ferry Inn re-opens following the raising of the bank through the summer
