Hi, I thought that you could moor on the right at the end of the Staithe where Eastwood have their yachts, I’ve seen people moor there before, but I just seen the staff turn two boats away, says it’s there mooring and not public. There are no signs saying private mooring or mooring for them only. Anyone know what the score is? Chicol

"Hi" all depends what you are calling on the right, if you coming down the cut you should have boats all along the bank on your right-hand side and in the basin you should be able to moor up on the left as we have done many times in the past and even on a Saturday afternoon prior to the yachts going out ? May be things have changed.
Kindest Regards Mike

Yes, I mean the moorings in the basin on the right as you go down. I’m moored on the left at present and now a thirdBoat has been turned away From mooring near their yachts, there’s loads of free space.

Someone told us about 3 weeks ago that on the free moorings (at the bottom of the left as you go down) there were 3 private yachts laid up and a live aboard cruiser who looked like they were there long term leaving just one available space. Are they all still there? As far as i'm aware the only free moorings on the right are the 1-2 spaces at the mouth

There are about 3 spaces on the left. A live aboard is also here with a lot of refurbishment going on. Update, tonight a large hire cruiser is now moored On the right in the basin, maybe cause the Eastwood staff have gone home and so they haven’t told them to move. I still think that the very fact that it doesn’t say private mooring means that it isn’t and they are just trying it on, I will find out who runs this dyke and ask them for clarity, by the way the steak pie in the pub is fantastic, and the Addams mosaic, what a pint

The family sold up and retired at the end of the 2015 season and up til then they were members of the Broads Hire federation and had a reciprocal agreement that hire boats could moor on their moorings when spaces were available and if it wasn’t a changeover day , which used to be Saturdays . I believe that they currently are no longer members of the federation so do not have to permit hire boats to moor on their moorings .

The moorings on the left are public I believe the ones on the right are owned/leased to whelptons due to the Covid situation they probably don’t want other boats moored on that side, I have moored that side but always ask first.
In a nutshell The Moore the merrier.

Eastwood Whelpton are still part of the Broads Hire Boat Federation and generally speaking anyone is welcome to moor on our moorings unless we are expecting our own hire fleet.

Thank you for the clarification, seventh-heaven. I thought perhaps you had changed your policy, due to the Covid-19 situation (which would be entirely understandable). However, I can confirm what Chicol has said about hire boats being turned away yesterday (or at least the one I saw being turned away), as I was also on the parish mooring. Perhaps you could clarify the policy with your staff.
