I passed it on my week just gone and wondered how long it had been shut and derelict for? A real waste of a good mooring location

Ben hi,

I don't know how long it has been closed but it is many years.  The last time I can actually remember it all being fully open and mooring there myself Is probably in the early 80's. I can remember their used to be a supermarket/shop and a games area with kiddies rides.

I think a small bar opened for a while later but has since closed, yet again quite a few years ago.

I reckon it's about time the bar open signs/writing on the wall was removed or covered up.  The amount of time that has passed I would have thought the writing would have faded away by now.

Kind Regards
Alan...

Getting difficult to trace the legacy that was 1st East but I don't think this area really featured save for a new broad in the marsh across the river which might have given cause for visitors to stop off and look see while waiting for tides etc. Course Bure Park pitch and putt is still worth a punt for an hour to while away.

The major investment in the past decade was Great Yarmouth's outer harbour which apparently continued to attract new business at the time of the article back in 2011 if you believe what is written by the beeb.

Unutterably sad. Yarmouth has a lot of heritage to capitalise on and put the Great back in. Just street view Camperdown if you want to see what could be. Brighton By The Broads?

I moored there the first time up which was 1999 although bits of it was already shut. I'm sure it was shut the following easter.

We do not need a bigger boat...

Regards, Alan

As far as I know this is still up for sale.  There have been several suggested uses for it, unfortunately the required investment from the local council looks unlikely to be forthcoming. Yarmouth is facing the biggest spending cuts of any English council and while it would be a brilliant idea I can't see the funds becoming available.  The moorings here would be far better than the existing Yacht Station  but the whole stretch needs some major dredging work. There is some good news for Great Yarmouth, it has recently gained AAS funding from the EU which will mean that more investment is coming into the town.  There is already a lot of firms doing well in the industrial part of the town and the new harbour is a big success making much larger shipments of Norfolk grain possible and enabling the largest wind farm vessels in the world to moor here, from which it is anticipated will generate a lot of income.
