Today at Beccles the peace was shattered by pile driving equipment, on the far side of the Moorings they are erecting posts for private moorings and apparently are going to take up the whole of one side for private moorings. A. I would have thought that they could have a chosen a better time of the season to do this, not when the hire boats were crowding in for a peaceful time. B. Seeing that when the dyke was widened originally if was Beccles Fen Land that was used, making this probably an incorrect use of land given by the crown to the people of Beccles and not to Waveney District Council. C. The mere fact that last week a discussion was taking place that the fen lands let to farmers may be a wrong thing as the land is probably a charitable trust. D. I wonder if this has been discussed more than when the Council opened up the Pool Mooring to live-aboards last year. Any thoughts on the subject?

Waveney being a poor (disorganised) council if they were planning it, it would never happen!!!!

Has planning consent been sought for this?

Today it was revealed that the contractors are to put in sixteen of these posts, which stand a good three feet or more above the old ones, must be expecting higher tides in the future. Seventeen mooring wil just about fill that side of the dyke. Wonder what will happen to all the gatherings that have taken place at Beccles, Yare sailers, the different classes of boats and the other weekend meetings and what will the impact be on the town of Beccles, I thought that at least "Morrisons" would have an objection. Edited for my speling of Moor or More Ranoe01

Dear Ranoe, As promised, OBBO raised the subject of the works at Beccles Yacht Station. The WDC are putting in 16 basic permanent moorings, these will not have electric power points. These moorings were organised by the WDC at the end of last year but due to the contractors schedule work could not begin until now. The WDC Evaluated the drop in usage of the Beccles Quay, and the need of more permanent mooring spaces, [possibly due to the higher amount of ex-hire fleet vessels being made available through companies closures.] As for the planning permission question, The WDC state that due to the fact that the strip of land running along the north side of the bay belongs to them, they have been advised that planning permission is not required to place post in the water anywhere up too the middle of the water course. I hope that these answer your original queries, I will be letting all OBB Members aware of the results of today’s meeting as soon as I am able, I will also being posting any relevant news for all shortly
