There is a bird hide at Rockland Broad which you can moor near on Fleet Dyke, Strumpshaw which is on the opposite bank on ther Yare to Rockland isn't accesible by anything other than a dinghy (other than the road or a long long walk down the river bank) if you hire a dinghy with your boat you can easily row across from Fleet Dyke. if it is to be it is up to me.

I think there is a hide actually on Rockland Broad accessible from the Staithe moorings. I'm sure I've seen the signs for this!

Unquestionably the best place to go, a short walk from either Rockland or Coldham Hall is Wheatfen. http://www.wheatfen.org/tethtml/home.html There is also an excellent RSPB Reserve just before you get to Brundall, but despite promising to make it accessible from the river many times, they have never done it. It is a fantastic reserve - with great variety. Mooring is difficult in Brundall but ask at one or two of the little private yards, tell them what you want to do and its probably a 20 min walk. On the Waveney moor at the Waveney River centre and take their ferry across the river to the Suffolk Wildlife Trust Carlton Marshes - this is/was a huge expanse of typical grazing marsh and is just getting off the ground - great vistas but perhaps not so on tap as the other two I have mentioned. However because the Yare and Waveney are bigger and faster flowing rivers and the generally smaller number of Broads without the softer reed banks up north, you may feel that there is less general wildlife on view - they have also suffered a greater problem with mink predation. Dont forget Breydon for waders either - best viewed at low tide a gentle cruise up the side of the channel should bring ample rewards although it is hard to get close unless you can walk on mud - probably a waste of time doing it at high water as a lot of it has the shoreline is a long way away but move up to the western end by the confluence of the Yare and Waveney and it is much closer.

I would recommend that you go to Wheatfen which is wwas the home of Ted Ellis a great man who bought it in the 1930s and lived there and created the reserve that it is now lots of birdhides and walks up to the river no moorings butyou can easily walk there from Rockland staithe or Coldham The RSPB reserve at Strumpshaw is well worth a visit , also down the chet at Hardley flood though you will have to walk from the moorings atLoddon , or just look ariund you whilst going along in your boat you will be surprised at how much wild life you will see just look for it it is all there
