Hi it' s Nick & Tracy (TheVirgins) aka first timers! We are setting off on the 19th July from Acle on a Spring Horizon. We have decided we will travel south as we would like to get as far as the Geldeston Locks Inn. We was wondering if we would have any problems getting the boat under Beccles bridge? Spring Horizon's air draft is 6ft 6". We would appreciate any help or advice lol. Text

May you quickly and enjoyably lose your virginity. The Broads is famous for that!!!
You should have no problems, there is a height gauge on the right just before the bridge. Might have to wait till the tide drops a bit but it's worth it.

Nick & Tracy hello and welcome,

As stated Geldeston well worth a visit as is Beccles itself.

Just something to bear in mind is that you will need to pass through Great Yarmouth and across Breydon Water.

The recommended time to arrive at Yarmouth is low water slack.  I have attached tide times for part of your holiday.

Not a big scary monster but you do need to take care.
For more info on Breydon Water Click Here

Have a great holiday

Kind Regards
Alan...

Hi Nick & Tracy, welcome to the forum. If you can go through Breydon at low water slack you will find it easier to helm and you will find it a quieter journey and use a lot less fuel. I have attached your weeks tide tables and also distance times If you take your time and use common sense you shouldn't have any problems, enjoy your stay.  Smile   Smile

Hi and welcome

As you are going that way I def recommend that you also include time to moor at Beccles, or even overnight there. Lovely walk from the moorimgs into the market square. Also take a stroll down Puddingmoor as you will find the Waveney House Hotel which is a nice riverside spot for lunch on their terrace.

I seem to recall a thread giving market days at the various towns on The Broads so that needs hunting down...

Thanks foe that extra info John.

We usually moor on the river side and walk along to the yacht station and then up the hill. Where are the swimming pool moorings please?

If you're planning to eat at the locks remember to take cash as they don't take card payments

Hi Everyone,
Thanks very much for all your replies, and helpful information, tips and links. We really do appreciate it. We are counting the days down now, we have the boat for 14 days, so any route ideas (including geldeston locks inn) would also be appreciated especially with pubs, with a choice of real ales, and good food along the way. Hope we are not asking too many questions. Tracy & Nick
