Hi, I am poised to book a week on the Norfolk Gem at the end of July for my husband and I and our 10 year old twins. I haven't been on the Broads since I was a child and was wondering how easy it is to get moorings for the night as I have heard horror stories about people having to look for moorings soon after lunch as they get taken very early in peak season. I would be grateful if someone could give me an idea of the reality -- obviously it will be busy in the holidays but is it possible to get moorings for the night without too much trouble? Many thanks
Some places like Horning staithe the moorings are limited so fill up quickly but there is normally an alternative, in this case the ferry inn or Le Boat or Freedom hire yards. that is one advantage the hirers have over the private boats. Also there are plenty of hire yards at Wroxham and plenty of other moorings under Wroxham bridge. It can be a big advantage in places like Ranworth or Womack to have a rowing boat so if there are no spaces you can drop the mudweight and row ashore. Also the southern broads are a lot quieter with plenty of places to moor.
The options seem to be between the Norfolk Gem from Richardsons or Fine Freedom from Freedom Boating Holidays - I would welcome any input from people who have had experience of either or both of these - they look pretty similar to my inexperienced eye!!!
